Waiting for a Life Partner with a Smile? Here's the Key

The season of being single is a season that should be full of smiles. Why? Because the life of a single person is very enjoyable. There are no time constraints, and there is not yet a bond of responsibility specifically toward someone.
Yet in reality, quite a lot of people who are single seem to find it hard to show a smile. The lines of their faces seem stiff and rather gloomy. Actually, what burden is on their minds?
It turns out that one of the main causes is the difficulty of finding a life partner.
A Problem for Many Singles
I once heard a story that was quite heartbreaking. A church friend decided to forget God in order to pursue a prospective husband. She neglected her spiritual activities in order to meet her handsome prince. She even did not hesitate to mock her friends, “Just wait for your turn, let me know when you finally get a boyfriend.” Then she decided to spend her time pursuing the man she longed for. Sadly, she was supposedly deceived, and the man she adored never even showed his face.
It seems that finding a partner is one measure of a single person’s happiness for a singleperson. For them, a life partner is the reason for a radiant smile on their face.
Many singlepeople, both men and women, feel that they cannot be happy if they still have to be alone. They often ask when they will find a partner and get married. Life does not feel complete without someone special by their side.
A thought arose within me. While waiting for a life partner, how can a single person remain full of smiles? How can you, as single people, continue to be happy?
Prepare Yourself
While you are waiting for a partner, it is important for you to prepare yourself to become the right person.
How do you do that? Here are some things you can try so that you can prepare yourself as a single person and live with a smile.
1. Get Involved in a Community That Loves God
As preparation before being in a relationship, try joining a community. There are many groups united by the likes, vision, and mission of each member. Being in a community will give you the opportunity to socialize and express yourself.
However, do not choose the wrong community. You need to choose the right community so that you are built up. One important community for you to enter is a community of people who love God. Why? First, you will gain friendships that build you up, not only fun times, but also strengthen you. Second, you will receive not merely friendship, but a family that helps you grow.
There is a verse in Proverbs 17:17 that says, “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
From the verse above, we understand that friendship is very important. That is why you need to spend time with a group that has a right view of this life. A community with values in line with the Bible is the right place. With a right view of life, surely you too will become a far better person.
Besides that, you will also get to know new people. Who knows, maybe from there you will find your soulmate?
2. Remain Holy in Living Your Single Life
One important matter for single people is holiness. This applies to both men and women.
For singlemen, the temptation against personal purity is indeed a challenge. Access to pornography that is so easy seems to knock on the door of the heart to be opened at once. As a man, you must guard your purity, no matter the cost. Pray and ask God for strength to guard your thoughts and actions.
For women who are single, you still need to carry yourself as an honorable woman. Wear modest clothing and maintain good and safe conduct toward the opposite sex. If an offer comes to sacrifice your purity for the promise of being loved and married, do not accept it! A man who truly loves will protect a woman’s purity.
Allowing sin to rule in your life is not His will for your life. Therefore, a single person needs to keep maintaining pure conduct.
So it is said in Psalm 119, “How can a young person keep his way pure? By guarding it according to Your word.”
Believe it, in holiness there is the key to a happy life. Because a holy life means giving God room to work in your life. How? Of course, by reading and practicing God’s word every day.
By keeping your single life according to His Word, you will be able to face your days with a smile.
3. Place Your Worries in God’s Hands
Perhaps you feel worried about the future of your life if you do not have a partner. You may ask, “What will my life be like later if I grow old without a life partner? Who will take care of me when I am sick? Who will accompany me in my loneliness?” You have the right to ask and worry like that.
However, it is not healthy to keep worrying continuously. Instead, believe that God will care for you, just as He cares for the birds and the flowers. As it says in Matthew 6:26, “Look at the birds of the air: they do not sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?”
It is also said in Matthew 6:28-29, “And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither labor nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not dressed like one of these.”
Are we not worth more than the birds in the sky and the wildflowers on the ground? Have you ever noticed the beauty of flowers that grow wild? The birds in the sky never run out of songs as they chirp and dance through the air. Flowers keep growing and blooming, even in the wild.
If God cares for birds and flowers in this way, surely He will also care for you. You need to place the worries of life under the shelter of God’s hand.
4. Develop Yourself According to Your Talents
While you are still waiting for a partner, try doing things or activities that you enjoy. Develop and improve yourself. Learn new skills , expand your network. What is the purpose? So that you become a better person. With excellent personal quality, of course you will be far more attractive in the eyes of a potential partner.
Where can you begin? From what God has already given you. As it says in Matthew 25:14-15, ”For the kingdom of heaven is like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his possessions to them. To one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away.” God has entrusted an ability within you, according to your capacity.
What you need to do is develop it, until God is able to say, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (v. 23). What can you develop? What is your strength? Start there, and work at it there.
A Single Life Under God’s Shelter Is a Reason to Keep Smiling
Indeed, it may seem difficult to live with a smile if you are single and do not have a partner. However, do not worry. God still has a beautiful plan for your life!
Search His Word, find the right community, pursue your talents and guard your holiness. Surely God will work, and in His time you will have everything you need, including a partner. - Related Articles:
