Want to Be an Attractive Woman? Have These 3 Things!

As women, of course we want to be seen as women who are attractive. To achieve that, there are many things we can do, such as keeping up with the latest beauty or fashion trends. This is certainly a good thing for women to do. We do it because we want to honor ourselves and also others through our outward appearance.

But does being an attractive woman depend only on her appearance?

An Attractive Woman Is Not Defined by Outward Appearance

“Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a wife who fears the Lord is to be praised.” Proverbs 31:30

To become an attractive woman, taking care of our appearance and attitude is certainly not wrong. However, there is one more thing that is just as important as those two. What is it? Her influence. The example she sets, and how her life provides a good example for others.

In the Bible there are so many women whose lives influenced many people. They had an impact through their way of thinking, attitude, kindness of heart, and their faith in God. Also, their hearts that were willing to be used by God to help others, made them  more attractive than the beauty or outward appearance they possessed.

What things can help us grow into attractive women? Let us learn 3 things from one of the women in the Bible. She is Abigail, one of David's wives.

1. Not Easily Influenced by Circumstances

The man's name was Nabal, and his wife's name was Abigail. The woman was intelligent and beautiful, but the man was harsh and evil in his dealings. He was a descendant of Caleb” 1 Samuel 25:3.

The closest environment can influence a person. Abigail could have become evil and harsh like Nabal, her husband. However, what is striking is that Abigail did not become like Nabal; she chose to live wisely. She had integrity by not allowing a bad environment to make her bad as well.

Living life by holding fast to God's word, in the midst of this world is clearly not easy. We may be seen as strange by our environment or by those closest to us if their values are different. At times we may also be tempted to give up because we feel different from others. However, do not give up. The fruit of the conviction to keep following God's word will be felt by us in time.

Let us grow into women who are not easily influenced by our surroundings.

2. Willing to Listen and Accept Advice

“... Therefore, think it over and consider what you should do, for disaster has been determined against our master and against all his household, and he is such a wicked man that no one can speak to him." 1 Samuel 25:14-17

The story above tells of the time when Abigail's servant informed her what David would do because of Nabal's attitude. We can see Abigail's willingness to listen to what her servant said. What would have happened if Abigail had been indifferent at that time and had not listened to her servant? Perhaps she and her whole household would have perished.

Listening to and accepting advice is an attitude we need to keep practicing. Personally, I sometimes feel it is difficult to accept advice or input about what I need to do. Maybe it is because the advice does not align with what I want, or perhaps because of who the advice comes from. My pride keeps me from grasping the meaning of the advice being given.

It is true that who gives the advice and how that advice is delivered are important, but what is more important is our willingness to listen to and accept that advice.

Abigail teaches us to have a heart that is willing to accept advice from anyone, even perhaps from someone whose status is below hers. Abigail's humility in listening to others enabled her to make wise and good decisions for herself and for others.

Are we willing to learn to become women who are humble in listening to and accepting every piece of advice we receive?

3. An Attractive Woman: Does Not Delay

“Then Abigail quickly took two hundred loaves of bread, two skins of wine, five prepared sheep, five measures of roasted grain, a hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and loaded them on donkeys,” 1 Samuel 25 : 18

Abigail knew what good needed to be done, and she did it immediately. Making a decision is a good thing, but a decision that is not acted on will have no impact and will not change our lives. Abigail's refusal to delay had a great impact on her life and on the lives of the people around her.

Have you made a decision recently? Perhaps it is about your personal repentance, or about changing to a healthier lifestyle? Have you started making changes by doing simple things? If not, let us stop delaying!

An attractive woman is not defined only by her appearance, but by a life that can influence others. It begins with becoming a woman who is not easily influenced by circumstances, who is willing to listen to and accept advice, and who does not delay in doing what is right. May we keep growing.
