In early March 2020, Indonesia began its battle against the coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19) as it first entered Indonesia. The spread of this virus in Indonesia had an impact on many sectors across the country. One of the impacts that was felt most deeply was on the economy.
This was felt not only by a handful of people, but by so many. That includes our fellow brothers and sisters in faith as well. Some lost their jobs. Others saw their income drop drastically, so that they could not meet their daily needs.
I give you a new commandment, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, so you also must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another." - John 13:34-35
That verse moved Gereja Kristus di Indonesia, through the Welfare Council, to help our brothers and sisters who are in need. The church helps by meeting their basic needs through the distribution of food packages every week.
Let us also reach out and help one another as the Lord has commanded us. We can learn from the heart of the churches in Macedonia, who kept giving even though they were in need.
Brothers and sisters, we want you to know about the grace bestowed on the churches in Macedonia. While being severely tested by various sufferings, their joy overflowed, and though they were very poor, they were rich in generosity. I testify that they gave according to their ability, even beyond their ability. Of their own free will they asked and urged us for the grace of taking part in this ministry to the saints. They gave more than we had hoped. They gave themselves first to God, then by the will of God also to us. - 2 Corinthians 8:1-5
