Want a Good Connection with Your Child? Check Out These Tips!

As a parent, you surely want to have a connection with your child. Your relationship and your child are close like friends. There is no distance, no barrier.

The same is true of your child . They want to be close to their parents and make them a safe place.

koneksi-gereja gkdi-1 Why Is a Good Connection Important? Then, what are the benefits of a good connection with your child?

When the relationship between the child and the parent is strong, the child will see the parent as a safe and comfortable place. There is no hesitation or awkwardness in sharing. When there is a problem, they will certainly talk about it. A sense of safety and comfort enables the child to grow in a healthy way physically and emotionally. Not only that, their potential also develops and is channeled well.

For parents, we will come to know and understand our child. Daily life also feels more enjoyable because we delight in the presence of our child Teaching and guiding our child also feels easier.

How to Build a Connection with Your Child

Now, how can a good connection with your child be created?

The following steps will be very helpful in building a connection with your child. Let us look at them together!

  • Seeing Children as a Blessing

Sometimes, a child's behavior can be annoying. That annoyance can be so strong that we begin to see the child as a burden, not a blessing.

Continuing to see a child as a blessing is the first step in building a connection with the child. Just imagine, if we keep seeing the child as a burden and as someone who is always upsetting. Will we be motivated to build a connection with the child

We can learn from Jesus' attitude toward children-little. When people brought children-little to beblessed by Jesus, the disciples rebuked them (Matthew 19:13). How did Jesus respond?

Matthew 19:14, But Jesus said: “Let the-children come, do not hinder them from coming to Me; for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

When His disciples tried to hinder the-children, Jesus did not act that way. He received them with joy andblessed them. The reason was that He saw the-children as the Father's gift.

How do you see your-children ? If a child is a blessing from God for you, then surely you will treat them with love and full respect.

On the other hand, we must also understand that children are a gift from God. Besides making sure their needs and growth are cared for, we also need to introduce them to God. Is it not wonderful that God entrusts us with such a great mission?

  • Spend Time with Your Child

Without enough free time, a good connection is impossible. The same is true for you and your children .

A child needs to see and feel how deeply he is loved. That will happen when we make time for him. We need to make time to play and do activities together.

As for how, you can take part in their hobbies and favorite activities. For example, playing games together, exercising, or going for a walk. Believe it, playing together is the glue in your relationship with your child. It can also be through praying or having devotion together, or by telling bedtime stories.

Not only doing activities together, make sure you are present in the important moments of your child. When your child graduates from school, takes part in a performance, or competes in a tournament, make sure you are there.

The goal is like Proverbs 17:17, A friend loves at all times, and becomes a brother in adversity. When you and your child become close, is that not something beautiful?

  • Treat Your Child Well

Everyone wants to be valued and treated with respect. The same is true of your child

Ephesians 6:4, And you, fathers, do not provoke your childrento anger, but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

That verse clearly speaks to parents. It says that fathers, and also mothers, must not stir up the anger of their children. From the verse above, we understand that parents need to treat their childas well as possible.

Why? Even while still young, a child will remember the feelings that arise from a parent'sactions. Whether good or bad, whether sincere love or pretend love, a child will surely remember.

Therefore, let us love our children sincerely. Pay attention to their feelings when you need to advise them. Also, set healthy boundaries so that they feel loved, for example, you will not give in to a child's request if they throw a tantrum or act harshly.

You can begin by using kind words toward your child. If they need to be disciplined, avoid words that tear them down and insult them. You need to control your emotions when disciplining them.

Also, show appreciation and affirmation. Praise and say thank you when your child does well. When your child achieves something, give praise so they will feel glad about their hard work.

A sense of being valued will nurture closeness, and eventually connection.
