Rise from Failure with God

We may easily say to your friend who is grieving over failure, "Come on, you have to rise from failure." However, if you yourself are in that position, you know that putting it into practice is not as easy as saying it.

Are you discouraged because of failure? Perhaps you failed to become the champion in a competition, failed to pass an exam, failed to be accepted for a job at your dream company. Or, you failed in marriage, failed in a relationship, even failed to be a good parent. Failure is certainly not an achievement you want, because everyone wants success and to do well in life. 

Theodore Roosevelt said, “The only person who never makes mistakes  is the person who never does anything.” As long as we live, it is impossible for us to do nothing, right? So, failure is not something rare. Everyone has experienced it, though in different things and with different responses as well.

Figures throughout the Bible also experienced failure. Just mention Moses, David, Elijah, and Peter. They failed in different areas of life. However, not only did they manage to rise again, they also turned failure into an opportunity to grow. They learned from their mistakes.

So, how can you turn failure into victory in the Lord?

Rise Again, Again and Again

For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble in calamity. – Proverbs 24:16 

Failure is not the end of everything. On the contrary, failure is the beginning of something new better than what you were living before. 

There were two crop farmers who experienced a failed harvest because of a flood. Both were equally saddened. The first farmer, every time he looked at his field, could not hold back his tears. That field was his future. Day after day, he kept lamenting the disaster. The second farmer was just as devastated as the first. However, two days later, he went back to work, hoeing the soil, planting seeds, watering, and fertilizing his field.

Three months passed. The first farmer was still mourning his failure, and his field was neglected. At the same time, the second farmer had already reaped his harvest!

Continuing to mourn and regret the mistakes that caused the failure is of no benefit. You will only remain the same person, unable to be big-hearted in accepting defeat. You also will not become more mature and have character that is strong.

To endure, you must have resilience and strong fighting spirit. The people you know who are successful did not simply become successful just like that. Some had to start from zero and experience ups and downs, not just once, but many times in life.

Rise again, no matter how many times you fail. Do not be ashamed, much less discouraged. Only those who dare to rise after failure will succeed in life.

See the Positive Side

And not only that. We also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, and perseverance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope. And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. – Romans 5:3-5 

Of course, you suffer when you fail. You may feel heartbroken, hopeless, frustrated, angry, or sad. However, God's Word says that should not be our response when we fail. God wants us to make failure part of the process of growth and maturity. 

Let failure become your spur to persevere even more. Look at what went wrong in the past, and strive to do what is better now. In that way, you will become a person with proven character. Through failure, you are equipped with the experience needed to face difficult situations in the future. When you have proven character, you have hope for success and victory!

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize of God's heavenly calling in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 3:13-14 

Forget your failures. Do not keep looking back, but direct your focus forward. Run in such a way; pursue your dreams and aspirations, until you obtain the reward! No effort is wasted!

Believe, God Is with You

Failure can make a person become inferior. You shut yourself away, withdraw from others, and believe that you are a loser because you have failed. In fact, failure is temporary. You can turn defeat into victory. Your opportunity is still open!

I can do all things through Him who gives me strength. – Philippians 4:13 

You may indeed fail, and you can fail. Accept that reality. However, do not forget: God never fails. No matter how bad the failure is, it will not diminish your worth in God's eyes. When you try to rise again, God will help you. 

You must be confident, and be sure of yourself because God is with you. You can get through these hard times because God is the One who gives you strength. Perhaps in your own strength, you are unable and powerless. But, is anything too hard for God?

Now, do not stay sunk in failure any longer. Failure is not always bad. In fact, it becomes the beginning of a victory, if you can overcome it and process it well. Be encouraged!
