Often Caught in Drama? Know the Causes and Solutions

Does your life often feel complicated and full of drama? Perhaps you often experience conflict of the same kind. Or on the other hand, avoid conflict even though something is weighing on your heart. Perhaps you are often offended by other people, or always want to appear perfect.
It may be that the things above are not happening to you, but to a friend or family member. Regardless, aren’t you tired of being constantly disturbed by drama?
God wants us all to have peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7)? And a peaceful life is a life free from “drama.” So, what does drama mean here? What kinds of situations cause drama in our lives, and how can we overcome them?
What Is “Drama?”

When you do not appreciate the situation you are in and accept it, you create drama. – Eckhart Tolle
Drama generally happens when situations do not go according to expectations. Human beings have a tendency to react when their expectations are not met. When we find it hard to accept reality, we become more focused on ourselves and personal desires. Reactions like these are what trigger drama. Not only do they have a negative effect on others, we may even hurt them and ourselves.
So then, how can we have a life free from “drama” as God intended? Recognize the types of drama, and look at the solutions below.
1. Trapped in a Cycle of Conflict

Are you arguing again and again with the same person? Always angry about similar things? This means there is a root issue that needs to be resolved. Find out whether the source is your ego, poor communication, or something else. Once you find the root, make an effort to change it. As far as it is within your control, do your best to make peace with others.
If possible, so far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone! – Romans 12:18
Do you know that peaceful relationships with everyone are very pleasing in God’s sight? In fact, this is no less important than all your offerings and service for Him.
“Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.” – Matthew 5:23-24
2. Avoiding Conflict

If responded to properly, conflict can actually be a healthy thing in a relationship. However, some people tend to avoid conflict because they do not know how to handle it. Not infrequently, they use passive-aggressivebehavioral strategies. Instead of communicating to resolve the problem, a conflict avoider will ‘punish’ the other person by giving them the silent treatment or behaving badly toward them.
When something is weighing on your heart, try to communicate with the person involved. By speaking honestly, you will receive clarification for your assumptions. Often, those assumptions are not true. If they are only kept inside, that suspicion will grow and torment you, and may even trigger sinful actions.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if anything is worthy of praise, think about these things. – Philippians 4:8
3. Wanting to Look Perfect

In this era of social media , many people compete to look cool, attractive, even perfect. Whether in terms of appearance, achievements, social status, number of likes or followers. If you are not careful, you can get swept up in that current.
Have you ever repeatedly checked the number of likes you got from your status or post? Or taken selfies (selfies) over and over until the result was perfect? Examine what your motivation is when doing it. Is it a lack of self-confidence? A desire to prove yourself? A feeling of not wanting to lose? Be careful that there is no sin slowly but surely poisoning your heart.
I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well. – Psalm 139:14
Whatever your background, race, education, social status, or style of dress, none of that affects your worth in God’s eyes. Be yourself as you are, and focus on growth in your character and spirituality. This attitude is more pleasing to God and has a positive influence on others.
Rather, let your adornment be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in God’s sight. – 1 Peter 3:4
4. Too Sensitive or Easily Offended

Do you tend to react strongly when someone jokes with you or corrects you? Maybe it is your boss or your coworker who does it, or a member of your family. Before being quick to take offense, try to think again calmly about the meaning of their joke or correction. Were their words valid? Were they spoken with good intentions?
Often, the cause of being easily offended is when we place our ego or personal feelings above our objective judgment. Maybe your boss corrected you because there is something you need to improve. Maybe your coworker did not mean to offend you when joking. Free yourself from being easily offended, and surely your mind will be calmer every day.
My beloved brothers and sisters, remember this: everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry; for human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires. – James 1:19-20
5. Living in Sin

Much of life’s drama can also happen because we live in sin. The sin of anger or pride causes conflict that hurts those closest to us. The sin of adultery results in a broken household. The sin of laziness makes the priorities of life fall into disorder.
Therefore, God continually calls us to leave sin behind. He wants you to truly enjoy a life of freedom. A life free from sin and drama. However, you need to keep responding to His call to repent.
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” – John 8:31-32
A life continually disturbed by drama will erode our happiness and productivity. So, recognize the kind of drama that often hits your life, examine its cause, and put the solution into practice. Do not forget to keep praying and rely on God. May it go well for you, and enjoy a drama-free life with Him!
