How Can We Find Peace in a Fast-Paced World?

Amid the busyness of daily life, peace often becomes a rare luxury, as I experienced one morning. After my quiet time and prayer, I finished the housework, took a shower, and then left for work. Since I had four appointments in four different locations that day, I did not get home until ten at night. As a result, even though there were still a few things that needed to be done, I chose to be still because I was too tired.
Perhaps you have also experienced a similar condition. This then makes you wonder: how can you find peace in the midst of a high-speed life?
1. Manage Time with the “3D” Method
For urban people, time problems often become an annoying nightmare. So many people are busy, chased by deadlines, with a mountain of tasks to complete. To keep feeling peace in every situation, try practicing time management with the “3D” method:
-
Be DISCIPLINED
Sometimes, it is not a lack of time that makes you always rush, but a lack of discipline.
For example, I am not disciplined with my bedtime. I often go to sleep too late, even though I know I have to wake up early. Sleeping too late makes it hard for me to get up the next morning, and as a result, I end up rushing all day long. One delayed schedule causes all the others to be delayed as well.
You may lack discipline in other things. For example, always arriving late when meeting people, studying only on the night before an exam, or putting off assignments until the last minute.
Be disciplined with your time. If you have already set a certain hour to do something, do it. Do not put it off, so that you do not always feel rushed.
So be very careful how you live, not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of the time, because these days are evil. – Ephesians 5:15-16
-
Throw Away DISTRACTION
To some extent, distraction or diversion will slow down your work. One of the most disruptive is social media. “It is fine to check IG for just ten minutes …” This kind of interruption is exactly what is dangerous. Because you get so absorbed, without realizing it, your ten minutes have already turned into half an hour.
As another example, imagine you are about to travel out of town by car. After only 15 minutes on the road, you stop at a food stall, then shop at the supermarket, and so on. In the end you arrive at your destination later than you should because you were distracted by many things.
What distraction often slows down your work? Social media? A noisy home atmosphere? A scattered mind? Whatever it is, if you simply let it be, you will continue to be controlled by time. When you realizehow much time has already passed
, you become panicked. Things that should have been done without rushing start to feel urgent, and that will steal the peace in your heart. After identifyingdistraction
, you need to look for the solution. For example, turning off internet access on your laptop for several hours or putting your phone in another room while you work on a task. As long as there is a willingness to work around the interruptions, you will surely be able to find a way out. For we hear that some among you are living undisciplined lives and are not working at all, but arebusy with things that are useless

. – 2 Thessalonians 3:11
DELEGATE Work
A lighter workload plays a major role in giving a sense of peace. With that calmness, you can do more important things optimally.
If there is so much that you have to do and you are unable to do it all, delegate part of it to someone else. Ask for help or cooperation from your coworkers, siblings, spouse, or friends, according to the context of the situation. You can also use appropriate technology to make your work easier. Be alert to the misleading picture of workplace competence. Do not think that asking for help means you are inadequate. Or that doing multitasking
shows that you are greater than other people. Be wise in seeing the situation and realize when you need to share the workload. 2. Set Aside Empty Time
(Make A Space)When everything is moving so fast, every so often you need to stop for a moment. If even the most advanced phone in the world needs to becharged
, of course you also need a break. After that, your mind and body will be refreshed again. Make a space is not the same asfind a space
. Setting aside time is not the same as having leftover time. If you wait for leftover time, there may be no time left over. When you set aside time, it means you are deliberately preparing a pause to stop for a moment.
-
So then, what can you do during that intentionally emptied time?
Quiet Time and Prayer
Every day, make sure there is time for quiet time and prayer. Come silently before the Lord and enjoy time with the One who loves you most. Forget your work or problems for a moment. Let your soul converse with its Creator.
As the deer longs for streams of water, so my soul longs for You, O God. – Psalm 42:1
My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. – Psalm 130:6Make a space for God
-
. Stillness in the Lord will give true peace and strength to live out your days. Me-Time
and Vacation Take time to do the things you enjoy (me-time),
and arrange a schedule for a vacation. Both of these are important to recharge your “battery.” Being busy is not a reason not to take a pause. The busier you are, the more time you actually need to stop for a while. For example, me-time
for me usually falls on Sunday. On that day, I allow myself to read books or go exercise. Besides that, I also arrange time to go on vacation to the beach. For me, there is nothing more pleasant and refreshing than playing in the water, because all my problems seem to be washed away in it.
Going on vacation also teaches us many things. I like observing new things, and this helps broaden my perspective. When I return from a vacation, new ideas begin to emerge. Not only am I able to find solutions to things that previously felt stuck, but I also gain a new mindset and renewed enthusiasm. Vacation is like pressing the “restart” or “reboot” button in our lives.
So, give yourself a break for a better you.
There is nothing better for a person than to eat and drink and find enjoyment in his labor. I realized that this too is from the hand of God. For who can eat and who can enjoy apart from Him? – Ecclesiastes 2:24-25 3. Peace Is a Choice
(Peace Is a State of Mind)
Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the boat was being covered by the waves, but Jesus was asleep. – Matthew 8:24
When a storm struck His boat, Jesus was actually sleeping soundly. This shows that peace is a decision that must be fought for. Peace is a choice, something whose presence can be pursued and created even in unfavorable conditions.
How can we have the kind of peace that Jesus had? Then His disciples came and woke Him, saying: “Lord, save us, we are perishing.” He said to them: “Why are you afraid, you of little faith?” Then Jesus got up and rebuked the winds and the lake, and the lake became completely calm. – Matthew 8:25-26
. Do you believe that whatever you experience is under God's control? If so, that will give you peace in every situation. However, to reach this level, you must have a close relationship with God. Jesus was so calm in every situation because He knew the Father was always with Him. Even as He approached His death, Jesus did not panic. He entrusted His whole life to the Father's will.
You may already have applied the first and second points, or tried various ways, yet peace still does not come. The reality is that a person may go on vacation, but their mind is still focused on work. Their body and soul are in different places. Peace is a choice. Decide to remain at peace in any circumstance because the Lord is the One who holds control over your life. So flee youthful passions, pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace
together with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. – 2 Timothy 2:22 Peace I leave with you.My peace I give to you , and what I give is not like what the world gives to you. Do not let your heart be troubled or afraid.
