Good News from the Palembang Congregation - Jefanya

A Gentle and Teachable Heart

Jefanya, a young man who graduated from a polytechnic in Palembang, was raised under the strict discipline of his father, a police officer. This caused him to grow up becoming rigid and distant from his family. 

One day, while opening the Instagram app, Jefanya saw a post from the official GKDI account (@gkdiofficial). Interested in its contents, Jefanya then contacted the account admin to ask about the GKDI community in Palembang.

Not long after that, Jefanya came to visit the community. At the first meeting, he was reserved and seemed uncomfortable. At the invitation of the other disciples of Jesus, Jefanya began joining PDA (Bible Discussion Fellowship) and going hang out with them on weekends. As Jefanya grew closer to the community, he also became willing to study the Bible more deeply.

A gentle and teachable heart—that was Jefanya’s greatest strength as he studied God’s word. Little by little, the Bible opened his understanding to truths he had never realized before. He felt that many things in his relationships with friends and family needed to be corrected. Jefanya’s strong willingness to learn could be seen in how often he asked questions and discussed with other disciples the issues in his family and daily social life.

Even though each piece of advice was not always easy to apply, Jefanya remained diligent in trying to do what was right. He faced many challenges, especially in dealing with his parents’ attitudes, which often triggered anger and negative responses from him. However, through the guidance of God’s word and the community of Jesus’ disciples who were always there for him, Jefanya was able to keep fighting and never give up.

For three months, Jefanya devoted himself to God’s word and learned to practice it every day. During that time, he often shared his experiences and introduced the community of Jesus’ disciples to many friends and acquaintances. Finally, on 2 June 2019, Jefanya made the decision to become a disciple of Jesus. 

To this day, Jefanya always makes time to meet with his brothers and sisters to share and support one another. He continues learning to be open and to trust others, while applying the advice he has received. In his struggle to find work after college, Jefanya is determined to build his life with God and do his part in every way. He believes that God and the right community will help him through every challenge in life. Amen!
