Good News from the Magelang Congregation - Joe

Wanting to Be a Positive Impact on Others

Humility is the door to understanding God. This is Joe's personal journey, a brother from the GKDI Magelang Congregation who made the decision to be baptized on October 25, 2020.

This young man from West Kalimantan is the third of seven siblings who studied and worked in Magelang. Joe came to know the GKDI congregation through the youth fellowship on the campus of the polytechnic where he studied. There, he exchanged contact information with brother Febri and had the chance to build a friendship, but was not yet interested in studying God's word.

A year later, Febri contacted Joe through chat and they arranged to meet with several brothers. There, they shared their personal experiences about God with him. Joe, who felt very blessed at the time, was willing to build a commitment to study the Bible once a week.

Since August 2020, Joe had to understand God's word in a way that was different from what he had known from the tradition of his faith. This was not easy, especially since reading the Bible was not something he was used to doing. However, because of his humility, Joe was easy to help in understanding the word. He was also eager to take on the challenge of having a quiet time. In turns, the brothers arranged time for quiet time and prayer together with Joe, and even created a special WhatsApp group for him.

Joe felt that God's word greatly helped him come out of sin and his weaknesses, including his negative way of thinking. While learning about repentance, he resolved to repent and put God above everything else. Even though he had to face the difficult choice of being baptized, he kept fighting to pray for his heart and fast.

Over time, Joe's heart was softened, until finally, with great joy, he made the decision to follow God. Now Joe continues to keep his commitment to live in the right way according to God's word. To God be the glory!
