Good News from the Magelang Congregation - Ruth

Leave Sin Behind, Embrace Peace and Gratitude

Humbling oneself and seeking peace of heart is not easy for many people. Yet our sister Ruth from the Magelang Congregation succeeded in finding it, and on August 10, 2020, she set her heart to follow Jesus.

Born in West Kalimantan, Ruth pursued her education at one of the colleges in Magelang. Being raised in a Christian family environment turned out not to be enough to help Ruth understand God's will for her life. Even though she was active in teaching Sunday School, becoming a singer, and taking part in various youth activities, all of it was only limited to spiritual service. She did not yet know God deeply.

Ruth met the Magelang Congregation through her friend, Heni, a sister from Singles Ministry of GKDI Magelang. From the start, when she joined a hangout with the singles of GKDI Yogyakarta, Ruth felt comfortable, as if she had known them for a long time. After sharing experiences of faith with the sisters, she committed to setting aside time once a week to study God's word.

In the process, Ruth felt deeply corrected by the word. She learned about life's true purpose, to repent, and become a true Christian in God's eyes. Ruth often prayed,, fasted, and involved the sisters who helped strengthen her. 

Ruth's greatest challenge was leaving the sins of pride and envy. All this time she felt that she was someone intelligent, active, and able to lead. In addition, she also harbored bitterness toward her father. After learning about repentance, she finally understood how important it is to break free from the snare of sin. Though it was not easy, she kept fighting because she took her repentance seriously.

Over time, Ruth began to feel peace and realized that everything she has now comes from God. She learned to be more humble. Little by little, Ruth was able to forgive her father, and even speak about him with joy, without crying, and even give thanks for having a father in her life.

Ruth's faith kept growing, and a verse convinced her to make the decision to become a disciple of Jesus: And this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also, not the removal of dirt from the body but the appeal of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. – 1 Peter 3:21 

Her baptism was the greatest gift from God, one Ruth did not waste. She wants to receive salvation and become God's outstretched hand to save others. 

Ruth is now a very humble person who pursues righteousness, and keeps looking ahead. She is a picture of the Ethiopian eunuch's heart, continually seeking and loving God, and becoming a light to the people around her. May God's name be increasingly glorified through Ruth. The Lord Jesus bless you!
