7 Ways to Be Content and Happy as a Single

In a society where everything seems to revolve around finding love and updating your relationship status on Facebook, it is indeed difficult to feel content while going through singleness. However, that does not mean it is impossible.
Your contentment is really a matter of perspective, a decision to trust God in all things and to see Him at work on every page of your life.
Here are some ways to feel content in your season of waiting:
1. Develop a thankful heart
Your praise and thanksgiving are powerful weapons. Instead of focusing on what you lack, try to remember and embrace all that you have. In this way, you fight dissatisfaction and give God room to remind you of His goodness and His blessings.
Being single is not God's way of taking life from you or punishing you. Do not get trapped in daydreams and efforts to find your soulmate until you forget all the gifts God has given you: the important relationships in your life, your talents, and even the freedom you enjoy as a single person.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
2. Invest yourself in family / friendships
Value every moment, conversation, and experience with your loved ones. Even though family and friends will always be part of your life, the dynamics of those relationships can change when that “special person” appears. As a single person, you can dedicate your time and focus to nurturing family and friendships.
When you look beyond personal satisfaction, your vision becomes clearer and your sensitivity to the needs of others also increases.
"And let us consider one another in order to spur one another on in love and good works." (Hebrews 10:24)
3. Pursue your dreams
Regardless of your relationship status, pursue the goals, dreams, and aspirations that God has planted within you. Do not waste your time! One of the biggest mistakes single people make is putting off pursuing their dreams until they find someone to pursue them with. By doing that, they end up missing many of the beautiful things single life has to offer.
Do not hold back your ambitions and interests until you find the one you adore. Instead, devote your time and energy to fulfilling God's calling. He will bless you with a teammate along the way, someone who will support your efforts and challenge you to be your best.
"Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize, which is the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 3:13-14)
4. Maintain your high standards
The longer you are single, the greater the temptation to get into a relationship with whoever seems interested, even though you know you are not compatible. Do not lower your standards or get involved in the wrong relationship because of desperation. Clearly, there is no perfect person who can meet every expectation you have, but do not compromise your standards.
"When He came to the place, He said to them, 'Pray that you will not fall into temptation.'" (Luke 22:40)
5. Nurture your spiritual life
Whatever your status is now, prayer and personal devotion are very important for nurturing your spiritual life. Prayer not only brings peace, but also reminds you that He is sovereign over your life.
"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." (Matthew 6:33).
Often we place all responsibility on ourselves, as if we are able to manage every smallest detail of life. Yet in truth, God asks us to surrender our plans to Him, to trust that He knows what is best for us.
Instead of spending time worrying, dig into Scripture and let the word of God fill your soul. Make God and His word your primary source of strength. When we are connected to that source, we receive His joy, strength, and wisdom.
“But wisdom and power belong to God; counsel and understanding are His.” (Job 12:13)
6. Surrender your life
In singleness, it is easy for us to doubt God, especially when it is hard for us to see the bigger picture of life. It is easy to think that you are responsible for reaching out and finding someone.
However, if we practice patience, be assured and know this: while you wait and seek God, He is working behind the scenes to design the story of your life. He is shaping and maturing you into the man or woman He desires you to be. The God who knit you together in your mother's womb surely understands you better than anyone.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to God's purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
Can you entrust your future to Him? That He not only knows what is best for you, but also the right time to bring it to pass?
7. Strengthen and serve others
During your season of waiting, God has given you tasks and responsibilities to serve and bring hope to those in need. Whether in the mission field, school, campus, church, or the local community, you have a unique purpose and contribution for others.
Every good deed, loving embrace, or word of encouragement from you will make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Changing the world begins with yourself.
"… Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of Mine, you did for Me." (Matthew 25:40)
My dear friend, God's plan for your life is beyond all that you could imagine, and it does not begin or end with finding a life partner. Let God turn your worries and restlessness into contentment for the present, and joy and anticipation for the future.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9)
Give God the pen of your life and let Him write your story. The result will be truly amazing!
