Learning from Children's Hearts: Continuing to Love Amid the Pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic that is still ongoing has changed the way of worship of Christians in general from in person (offline) to online (online). This includes, children's services. However, this change has not diminished the enthusiasm of the children in Pangkal Pinang, Bangka, to share and love one another.
GKDI Bangka has three KKK classes (Kerajaan Kanak-Kanak) divided by age. Before the pandemic, Sunday School or KKK classes were held on Sunday mornings. However, at present the children attend services through a digital platform every Saturday morning. In the application, the children gather together with the help of several teachers. They sing, listen to God's word, and talk together.
We can learn not only from adult congregation members, but also from children. They are examples of hearts that want to keep learning, quick to give, quick to forgive, and love others.
In mid-September 2020, the children in the older KKK class also showed sympathy for a sister in the congregation who is currently in Jakarta undergoing chemotherapy. They invited this sister to meet through an online platform. There, they asked how she was doing, encouraged her, and then took turns praying for her.
We as parents are very thankful for having a community that can help children know God from an early age. Here they are taught about God's character and how to apply it in daily life. We are also grateful to have brothers and sisters who are willing to offer themselves as KKK teachers. Let us pray that one day the KKK children may grow into individuals who glorify God, and become a source of pride for those involved in shaping their character. Amen.
