Good News Pematang Siantar Congregation - Dessy

Enjoying a Righteous and Pure Life in the Lord
Experiencing a life full of joy, while also living a life that can be enjoyed with flexibility and patience, seems like something impossible. Yet this was experienced firsthand by our sister, Dessy, a teacher who became a disciple of Jesus in October 2019.
Dessy, the third of five children, was raised by an authoritarian father, and a strong mother who showed little care. The absence of healthy communication made her family members indifferent toward one another.
When Dessy was in 5th grade, her father passed away. Her mother then became depressed and fell ill. While Dessy was in college, her mother at one point lost consciousness, and sometimes would rant or talk to herself. At times she also did not recognize her children. Difficult circumstances and the responsibility of caring for her mother shaped Dessy into a quiet, rigid, and easily angered person.
Entering her third semester of college, Dessy got to know several sisters from Pematangsiantar Congregation who were in the same class as she was. She felt comfortable being friends with them, because they were genuine. Over time, Dessy began to be introduced to the community of disciples of Jesus, until she was finally willing to study the Bible.
At first Dessy showed great enthusiasm for learning. In fact, because she was so eager, she enthusiastically told her mother of her desire to be baptized. But sadly, her mother did not agree with her studying the Bible. This caused her enthusiasm to fade, and she drifted away from the community.
During that time, Dessy was in a special relationship with a college friend. However, the unhealthy dating relationship left her unhappy. Dessy then persevered in prayer so that she might live on the right path. After that, Dessy became determined to study God’s word again. Remarkably, her boyfriend, Revlon, also decided to join the Bible study.
During her studies, the hardest things for Dessy to overcome were her quick temper, rigidity, and difficulty opening up. These traits were already deeply rooted in her. Even so, she was willing to keep receiving help through prayer, reading the word, and the guidance of the brothers and sisters involved. In addition to wisely managing her time for prayer and spending time with the sisters, her extraordinary enthusiasm for learning also made it easy for Dessy to go through each step of her repentance.
Finally, on October 26, 2019, Dessy and Revlon made the decision to become disciples of Jesus. Dessy’s change in character also helped Revlon’s spiritual growth. Right after coming out of the baptism pool, Revlon asked Dessy to be his beloved in the kingdom of God. The two now live out their special relationship as disciples of Jesus.
“I am so grateful because I am special in God’s eyes,” Dessy shared. “There is so much of God’s goodness that I had never realized before. What I wanted, God gave something far better. He changed me, from someone rigid, quiet, and temperamental, into a person who enjoys living life, is open, and is not easily angered. Most of all, today I can be in a dating relationship without being haunted by guilt because of impurity.”
By joining the Singles & Professionals Ministry, Dessy now gives her time to worship service and helping other people’s lives. May she continue to grow and be used by God in an extraordinary way as an instrument to reach souls. Glory be to God alone. Amen!
