Respond to Answered Prayer with Humility

God calls us to know Him more deeply in various ways that we sometimes cannot predict. Such was Safar's experience, who never imagined he would come to know a community that could help him live righteously before God.

During living his life as a single, Safar felt that his spiritual life was bland and empty. He was not growing and did not have an intimate relationship with God. Safar also found it difficult to get support for spiritual growth from the community around him, so he chose to build a personal relationship with God all by himself. In fact, he rarely attended church worship every week.

At that time Safar was in a relationship with Mawar, who had a different belief, and this also became one of his struggles. He wanted to help Mawar know the truth of God's word, so that one day they could take their relationship to marriage.

In the midst of all those struggles, a miracle happened in Safar's life. At one point, Mawar felt inspired by the marriage of a pair of disciples of Jesus who happened to work at the same place as she did. Because she wanted to have the same quality of married life she took the initiative to look for a spiritual community that could help her learn God's word. Through Mawar's invitation, Safar also came to know the community of disciples of Jesus in Nias.

Safar, who at first was reluctant to learn because he felt he was already a Christian, eventually realized that this was the answer to his prayers all this time. He became so eager to study the word twice a week, even though the distance from his home to the city of Gunungsitoli took time for a one-hour journey.

During his period of study, Safar had to struggle to humble himself according to what God desired. From someone who was very emotional and liked to fight, he changed into someone who was able to control the temperamental nature within him.

In August 2020, Safar made the decision to become a disciple of Jesus. He was overjoyed to see how God worked to help him out of a life full of sin. Now he can enjoy a life in which he can walk with God and have a community that always supports him to live righteously. Today he has a longing that one day his family too can study the word and live together as disciples of Jesus. Amen!
