3 Things That Make God Say "I Am Willing"

12 On one occasion Jesus was in a town. There was a man covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell facedown and pleaded: "Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean." 13 Then Jesus reached out His hand, touched the man, and said: "I am willing , be clean." Immediately the leprosy left him - Luke 5:12-13.

This leper succeeded in making the Lord answer, “I am willing…” to his request. If only we learn what was in him that made the Lord answer that way and immediately touch and heal him at that very moment, then we too will receive what we hope for in this life. The Lord will promptly answer what we truly hope for from Him. The Lord Himself was willing to become ‘unclean’ in order to heal this man, because in Jewish tradition, let alone touching, even being near lepers could make us unclean and require us to undergo the prescribed religious rituals. Jesus, the Lord, broke through all those teachings and did not delay making happen what was asked and hoped for by this lowly man, why?

1. Faith in Him alone

This leper truly believed in the Lord. That faith is clearly seen from this man’s words AND actions, from the decision he made in his life. It makes no sense if people today pit faith against actions, because the two should come as one package, without denying the conflicts that can arise between them. What is clear, however, is that faith cannot be separated from actions and words. Once again, the two exist together.

The true question we must always ask within ourselves is, “Do we really believe in HIM? And is our faith ONLY in Him?” If the answer is YES, then the Lord is certainly pleased with us. And the Lord’s pleasure is the ticket for us to receive so many extraordinary things in life, as well as the strength to do anything, even the things people say are impossible for us to do.

2. Total dependence on Him

He alone is the One on whom we should depend, and not on what people generally depend on these days. Usually a person will depend on strength, material wealth, experience, power, or someone they know. But what will make God say ‘I am willing’ to our request is when He truly sees that He alone is the One in whom we place our hope.

If we place our hope in anything other than God, the Bible says that is unfaithfulness, because God is the One who should move all of them, not us or our relationship with them. God sees us as His beloved bride. God is a jealous God and in fact will not do anything for those who do not place their complete hope in Him.

3. Willing to pay every risk

This leper truly broke Jewish rules by coming near people who were clean. He was not allowed to do that. But because he was so convinced of the ability of the Lord Jesus and that the Lord Jesus would do it, he pushed past them all. Trust and dependence on God will bring many risks, but we must pay them, and that is the way to the answer, “I am willing..’”

Pay the price of our trust in God. Do not stop believing and entrusting everything to Him, hoping and depending only on Him, and face every risk because of our trust and confidence in Him!
