The Greatest Love

You were created because of love.

Do not think that your birth was a coincidence or an accident. No. You were born because of your parents’ love, and surely, because of God’s love. Your parents or guardians have cared for and raised you to this point, but it is God who has given the growth and been with you.

Why would God, who made the world and everything in it, who gives life and breath and everything His creatures need (Acts 17:24-25), want to create you? He who is almighty does not need to be served by human hands; He lacks nothing. And, it is not because God is lonely, but because He wants us to be His extended hands.

This is the fact: God loves you.

Everything Begins with Love

Your mother could have chosen to abort her pregnancy so that you would not be born into this world. Yet, she was willing to carry you for nine months and carefully care for her womb because she loved you!

Likewise, you are still alive at this very moment and reading this article because God loves you. You are precious and special in His sight.

For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and my soul knows it very well. – Psalm 139:13-14

God was at work shaping you while you were still in the womb. The word “wove” in the verse above means that He created every part of you in detail. God did not design you carelessly or haphazardly, but with His love.

We Cannot Live Without Love

A friend once told me about the joys and sorrows of being an animal lover. How sad she was whenever she returned home from being out of town for several days, because her pets would never survive for long, even though they had been entrusted to a friend.

I know this friend of mine loves her pets dearly. Whenever she was with them, she would hug, kiss, stroke, and talk to them. From that I learned: if even an animal cannot survive without its owner’s love, how much more we as human beings!

We cannot survive without God’s love, no matter how great or powerful we are. And, God the Father was willing to send His Son into the world so that we might have eternal life in Him. Praise be to God!

In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him. – 1 John 4:9

His Love Gives Us Life

God’s plan of salvation for humanity had been prepared thousands of years ago, when mankind fell into sin.

But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, has made alive us together with Christ, even when we were dead in our trespasses—by grace you have been saved. – Ephesians 2:4-5

God does not want us to perish because He loves me and you. He chose Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Joshua, David, and the other prophets to introduce the law and the way of righteousness to the people of Israel, but they rejected Him. Yet, God never gave up. Until at last, through Jesus Christ, we were made alive again and saved from death.

So, we may receive life in salvation not because we are strong and great, or because we are clever, or because of all our hard work. The greatest love, the love of God, is what gives us life!

The Lord’s Love Never Ends

But You, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in love and faithfulness. – Psalm 86:15

Life is full of surprises. Everything can change in a matter of seconds, minutes, hours, days, months, and years. Friends can become enemies. Parents will one day be gone. Wealth that seems as though it will last for generations can also run out. A boyfriend, girlfriend, or spouse can leave us. Children, after they grow up and become successful, can forget their parents.

When you succeed, people come near. When you fall, go bankrupt, or fail, people keep their distance from you. Only God is faithful with His eternal and unchanging love. The Lord’s love never ends; it keeps flowing, cutting through time and every circumstance.

Even to your old age I am He, and to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made you, and I will bear you; I will carry you and will save you. – Isaiah 46:4

I once saw an old beggar walking in the distance. His hair had turned white, his body was frail and weak, and his clothes were worn out. The old man walked with a limp, one step at a time, very slowly. At that point, surely there was not much physical activity he could still do.

Can you imagine, if one day you were like that old beggar—your hair white and thinning, your strength gone; your memory, sight, and hearing diminished; you could only lie helpless in bed; all your needs, such as eating, bathing, changing clothes, even taking medicine, had to be attended to—who would still care for you and love you?

God is still God. He promises that even until your hair turns white and even when you can no longer walk, He is the same God. He will carry you and me. Sustain us. Bear us. Even save us. How great is His love for us human beings!

Therefore, let us remain faithful and live in His love, until He comes a second time and brings us home.
