Wise with Time: Make Every Moment Count

The richest person and the poorest person both have time 24 hours a day. The same is true for the healthy and the sick, the most happy and the one who feels the most troubled.

So why do we so often feel that time is not enough for us to do this and that? Or, on the other hand, we waste seconds and minutes on trivial things or things that bring no benefit to us?

How can we be more wise in using every moment that God has given in our lives?

 

Making the Most of Your Opportunities

Our real problem is not a lack of time, but its management.

Paul wrote to the Colossian church: “Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the time.” – Colossians 4:5. In the New English Translation, that verse is rendered as, “Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunities.”

This means that in all our actions, including our interactions with others outside the Church, we need to pay attention to our use of time. Make the best possible use of every opportunity we have to relate to others. Our time is not much, yet we often pour it out on things that are less beneficial for the growth of the Kingdom of God.

In the King James Version, the phrase used is redeeming the time (redeeming the time). So many of our hours and minutes are lost in waste. So now is no longer the time to take it easy. We are expected to make double, even triple effort in using every moment we have and paying back the opportunities that were wasted in the past.

I personally realize there have been many moments I should have used to win souls, but they simply passed by. Let us treat every moment that God gives with greater seriousness. We should use every opportunity to interact with other people to proclaim the Gospel of Christ.

Remember these three things so that we may value time more:

1. Souls Are the Measure

As disciples of Jesus, the end goal of every aspect of our lives is to fulfill His Great Commission (Matthew 28:19). Let us not measure time by money. Our measure is souls won. And genuine soul-winning is always carried out by those whose souls abound in Christ.

Whatever ministry gift we have, we still need to carry out that Great Commission. Whom have we led to Jesus? Have we proclaimed the Gospel of Christ to others through our daily actions? To do that, is our own soul already overflowing with His love?

2. Plan Everything Well

Time cannot be saved up or piled up. What has already passed cannot be pulled back again. And time that is not planned well will simply evaporate, without bringing us any closer to Christ's purpose.

On the other hand, the strength of those who win souls, whose faithkeeps growing and who are able to accomplish much, lies in their management of time and its execution.

Let us build the habit of arranging every hour and minute we have. Have we made a plan before the day begins? Make sure that today, this week, this month, this year, we have a plan for each of our activities.

3. Evaluate and Be Creative 

There are souls that need a long time before they can be reaped for Christ, but there are also those that can happen very quickly. Besides needing wisdom to tell the difference, we also need to evaluate the way we interact with others and how our timeis distributed.

Reflect on this, and if needed write it down: is there anything we must do differently tomorrow and onward? What kind of souls must we bring into the Kingdom of God? The Lord Jesus was always intentional in everything He did. Be intentional too, like Jesus.

May the three things above help us become more wise with every opportunity in life to bring others to salvation.

Let us pray: Father, teach us to see how precious each of our seconds today is from the perspective of the kingdom of God. Every moment we have carries eternal value. Help us use it with great wisdom. Amen.
