3 Traits of People Who Understand God's Power

But the centurion answered Him: “Lord, I am not worthy to have You come under my roof; just say the word, and my servant will be healed.   For I myself am a man under authority, and I also have soldiers under me. If I say to one of these soldiers, Go!, he goes, and to another, Come!, he comes, or to my servant, Do this!, and he does it.” – Matthew 8:8-9

This centurion truly understood the meaning of real authority. He knew that the Lord's power (God's power) is unlimited and that there is nothing He cannot command.

The simple analogy he gave was that he only had 100 subordinates in his troop and he could command them to do whatever he wanted. He knew that the Lord could do the same. The Lord is the Creator who possesses everything on the face of the earth, so there is nothing that will not obey Him. Everything will carry out His command without arguing.

If someone can understand authority like this centurion, then it is certain that he will understand the extraordinary power of God, which will have a great impact on his life. It cannot be denied that this is the problem with most believers, namely that they do not truly know the power of God, and so many worries, unbelief, doubts, and anxieties arise.

Consider Abraham's readiness and willingness to go up Mount Moriah and bring Isaac, his only son, to be sacrificed. Abraham knew God was so powerful even though this child had been awaited for so long. On what basis did Abraham obey without arguing and do all this? Why did he not negotiate, as he did for Sodom and Gomorrah? Simple, the only thing the Bible says is: Hebrews 11:19 For he considered that God was able even to raise the dead. And from there he, in a manner of speaking, received him back.

Abraham and the centurion understood God's power, therefore they remained calm and trusting. God saw that and performed a miracle. So, what are the traits of people who believe in God's power?

1. They Know Who They Are

They always remember that nothing they have is purely the result of their own efforts. Yes, they know that they are instruments, so they focus on who is using them. Of course they need to be instruments of the best quality, but even if they have the best quality, if they are in the hands of someone without power and without skill, that person will not be able to make much use of them.

So a human being who understands God's power will become a humble person. The centurion was someone who knew his place very well, because of the Jewish tradition that would not allow Jesus to enter his house. Yet all that he asked of Jesus was an expression of his trust and his knowledge of the Lord and His power. This centurion is truly inspiring; may more and more believers believe the way this centurion believed.

2. They Always Feel Secure

They do not need to worry because they know there is nothing beyond God's reach. If something happens to them, then it must be within God's intervention, so nothing is accidental. If they experience misfortune and failure, then they will learn, accept, and give thanks. Yes, if they win and succeed, they will remain calm and give thanks, glorifying God, not boasting in themselves.

3. They Do Not Argue

Just like Abraham, the father of believers, there was no arguing at all. God does not desire a people who love to argue; rather, those who love to argue will be destroyed. If we know His extraordinary power, then why should we argue with Him? It is only with strange and unclear people that we need to argue. Against God we cannot possibly win or succeed.
