Men men, have you lived with joy today?
Imagine how beautiful the world would be if joy were within you. Many people would be impacted, especially with the position of men as leaders, joy will bring many benefits in this life.
When you rejoice at home, your wife and children will certainly rejoice as well. If you work with joy at the office, of course work becomes enjoyable, and your coworkers will be impacted too. Your friends will surely be inspired when they see you.
What Makes a Man Rejoice?
The question is, what can make a man rejoice?
Usually, the answer seems obvious: wealth, a good career, a beautiful wife. There is nothing wrong with having those things. But does true joy really come only from those things?
A job can be lost. Riches and wealth can be taken away or stolen. A spouse's beauty will fade with age. In fact, even men who already have all of that are not necessarily able to live with gladness. How many men like that can boldly say that they rejoice?
If so, the source of joy must come from something far higher.
The Source of True Joy
To find the answer, let us open God's Word.Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
The Lord is the source of joy that is true. In Him, we find hope and strength that cannot be taken away by anything. Anything bad may happen in this life, but with God, we will be able to keep going - and even grow stronger.
Without strength from God, we will not obtain that true joy Here are ways to receive joy from God.
1. Becoming a Man Who Is Close to God
James 4:8a, Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you...
As leaders, we very much need to be close to God. God promises to draw near to those who draw near to Him. Is that not deeply encouraging? The Most High God wants to draw near and have fellowship with us, even though we are sinful. He longs to be close to us.
How can we draw near to Him? One way is by reading and meditating on His Word.
Psalm 19:8 The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
As men, we can follow David's love for God's Word. He meditated on God's Word every day and had a deep relationship with God. From here he received joy, strength, and even wisdom.
Would you begin to go deep in God's Word?
2. A Holy Man
Psalm 1:1 (TB) Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, who does not stand in the way of sinners, and does not sit in the company of mockers,
The psalm above states it clearly. Blessed are those who do not follow “the way of sinners.” When we keep our lives upright, we will enjoy true freedom. This is because God's Word guards our lives, and there is nothing separating us from God.
Isaiah 59:2 but your iniquities are what separate you from your God, and your sins are what make Him hide His face from you so that He does not hear.
The presence of sin will surely steal joy. Imagine, for example, that we commit even one sin, such as sexual immorality. We would certainly feel uneasy, would we not? What is more, we are separated from God because of that sin.
That is why joy will surely come from holiness. God and His wisdom guard you.
3. A Fit Man
Being healthy and fit will help a man rejoice more. Remember, in a strong body there is a healthy soul. Just imagine, if our body is not fit and gets sick easily, can we feel joy?
Of course we do not need to have bodies like models and commercial stars. What matters is that we maintain our diet, exercise regularly, and go on a diet if needed. It is difficult, but that is what we need to do.
We can take Caleb as an example, a leader of the tribe of Judah, who helped Moses. He was one of the 12 spies. He valiantly captured the city of Hebron.
Joshua 14:11 Even now I am as strong as I was on the day Moses sent me; my strength now is as my strength was then, for war and for going out and coming in.
At the age of 85, Caleb remained a man who was strong. His fitness did not decline, even in old age.
Like Caleb, who remained fit, we too need to maintain our physical fitness. With healthy bodies, we can enjoy our relationship with God, our wife, our children, and our friends. We will enjoy life with cheerful gladness.
We Rejoice, the Family Is Happy
When we become men who are full of joy, the people around us will feel it too. A wife will be happy to have a husband who is optimistic and ready to face challenges. A child will feel secure having a father who stays enthusiastic. Our friends will be glad to be with us.
God will also rejoice to see us, men His creation, living this life with hope and joy.
