Live to the Fullest – 8 Secrets to a Full Life (Part 1)

I once worked at a supplement company with a slogan that more or less meant “life fulfillment”. When I was still a new employee, I asked my supervisor what the slogan meant.
According to him, life fulfillment means a full life. A life that is truly ‘alive.’ Complete and enjoyable. Not in a state of sickness, or merely existing with no will to live or die. In other words, the company wanted to help everyone have a full life.
That conversation inspired me to have a new dream: live life to the fullest—to live life to the fullest. Not just an empty, bare-minimum life, filled with complaints, resignation, or bitterness every day. Do you have the same dream?
The question is, how can we have a full life?
1. Live Healthily
How can we have a full life without a healthy body? You may want to eat well, but have to avoid this and that. You may want to travel, but your health condition keeps you from being active.
One requirement for a full life is a healthy body. What kinds of food and drink do you consume every day? Do you exercise regularly? Do you get enough sleep? What have you done to keep yourself healthy now and in the future?
Daniel is one of the Bible figures who proved how a healthy lifestyle can have a positive impact on a person’s performance and future.
“Please test your servants for ten days: let us be given vegetables to eat and water to drink. After that, compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the king’s food, and then deal with your servants according to what you see.”
He listened to their request and tested them for ten days. After the ten days had passed, they looked healthier and better nourished than all the young men who had eaten the king’s food. – Daniel 1:12-15
In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom. – Daniel 1:20
Taking care of your health is an investment in the future that depends on the lifestyle we live today. Do not put it off until you are older or no longer busy with work. Take care of the body God has given you starting now.
2. Have a Healthy and Peaceful Community
Do quarrel after quarrel drain so much of your energy and emotions? Do many relationship problems make you lose your joy and peace?
Pay attention to the community you are in right now. If you join a community whose members often speak harshly, are selfish, lie, or are full of deceit, how can you live life to the fullest? More likely, your life will be showered with conflict and problems.
The people you choose as friends and a spouse will influence your life. Just imagine, for a moment, that you have a spouse who is extremely lazy (does not want to work), likes to complain, drinks alcohol, is unfaithful, and irresponsible. Would your life be full?
Besides having a community that is good, make every effort to keep peace with everyone. That way, you will be more happy. Of course, it is uncomfortable if every so often you think, “If I go here, I’ll run into A... Ugh, I don’t feel like it. But if I go there, I’ll run into B instead.” Constantly avoiding many people is not a mark of a full life, because our freedom will be dictated by circumstances.
If possible, so far as it depends on you, live in peace with everyone! – Romans 12:18
3. Plan Your Finances
Many people lose the opportunity to live a full life because they do not have good financial planning. They live only for today and forget that tomorrow still has to be lived, so they spend money on unnecessary things.
One of the worst consequences of poor financial planning is becoming trapped in debt, whether from credit cards or personal loans. How can we live peacefully if debt collectors chase us every day?
However, being debt-free does not mean your financial planning is already good. Perhaps you are extraordinarily frugal, to the point that you have to neglect a healthy quality of life. Or, you may not be in debt, but you also have no savings at all.
Plan your budget and budget your plan. Set your spending budget and budget your plans. Take time to plan your future finances, whether in the form of long-term savings, insurance, investments, and so on. Learn how to manage money well every month. Do not let your expenses exceed your means.
With a good financial plan, you are not only able to get what you need, but also the things you want (point 5). For example, you can take both of your parents on a trip. This will give you satisfaction, pride, and peace of mind, because you will not simply run out of money every time you go on vacation.
For which of you, wanting to build a tower, does not first sit down and estimate the cost, whether he has enough money to finish it? – Luke 14:28
4. Giving
Giving will make you feel happy. Is that true?
Giving is not limited to physical things, such as goods or money. You can give energy, time, attention, talent, and many other things that bring the same sense of satisfaction and happiness . The gift does not have to be expensive, but it should be given wholeheartedly. A gift given reluctantly will not make you feel more alive, but instead burdened.
But Peter said: “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have, I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk!” – Acts 3:6
Peter did not give what he did not have, but what he already had. And, surely everyone has something to give to the world.
Imagine how happy Peter must have been when the lame man finally walked. If the “something” you occasionally give to others brings an indescribable sense of happiness, imagine if you did it every day. How much would you have abundant joy that never runs out!
