3 Tips for Maximum Performance in a Less-Than-Ideal Workplace

For many people, working in the right place is an important need. There, they not only earn a living, but also prepare for the future. Interestingly, we usually find two kinds of workers: those who like their jobs and those who do not.
Whether or not someone likes their job generally affects their performance at work. People who love their work will carry out their tasks to the fullest. On the other hand, those who do not love their work will only do “what they can.” This is certainly not something that pleases God, who wants us to work as well as possible.
Whether you do not get along with your colleagues, your boss, or your work environment, how can you maximize your performance when your workplace feels less than ideal? These three points will help you do it.
1. Be Thankful You Have a Workplace

God wants His children to do their work with gratitude, including what we do for our current workplace. The Bible speaks about thankfulness as follows:
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God our Father. – Colossians 3:17
In the first month I worked at a company, my heart was filled with ingratitude. I thought I should have been able to get a better company. I asked myself whether I had chosen the wrong workplace. For a whole month I let those thoughts control me, and as a result, I worked without joy.
In the end, I was awakened by the advice of a friend who reminded me to be thankful. Be thankful that we still have a place to work while many people are still looking for work. Be thankful, because God has a good plan for us in that place, and did not put us there carelessly. Yes, remembering God's goodness through the work we have now can help us be thankful.
The power of gratitude turned out to have a major impact on my performance. I became more eager to go to work, and I no longer counted the remaining work hours in the day. The gratitude I practiced had a good effect on my productivity at work.
If you are feeling disappointed with your workplace, pray for your own heart to be enabled to give thanks. By being thankful, you can work with a willing heart that gives your best, not merely doing the bare minimum.
2. Become a Proactive Person

Being proactive means acting more actively. Some people are reluctant to be proactive because they feel it is useless. But what does the Bible say about this?
And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two miles. – Matthew 5:41
When I tried to act proactively at work, I found that I gradually began to like my job. The more I liked my job, the more I wanted to show my best performance. Even when there were no instructions from my boss, I still did what I could so I would always stay productive.
Being proactive at work is a good character trait This not only makes you enjoy your work more, but also surely pleases your boss. Your coworkers can also be inspired by the way you work.
Often there is reluctance to give more to the company where we work, especially if the effort does not seem equal to our income. However, remember that God sees your hard work. Even if no one at work appreciates it, God sees your effort to act proactively. Reflect on this, and begin to practice a proactive attitude at work.
3. Set Targets

Targets are an important factor in forming an effective work strategy . Without targets, we will be relaxed and directionless. The book of Proverbs speaks about it as follows:
The plans of the diligent surely lead to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to lack. – Proverbs 21:5
When you have a target, your focus will be directed toward that target. An entrepreneur who has a certain profit target every month will be more productive than one who runs a business carelessly. In fact, it is dangerous if we work with the mindset of “just go with the flow,” because we will not produce anything.
Set targets in your work . What do you want to achieve each month? What is your target within your first year of working? What position do you want to attain after several years of working?
If you are an entrepreneur, determine how your business will grow in one month, six months, and even the next year. How will you achieve it, what strategies can you apply, who do you need to become business partners, and so on.
Try to make the targets you set realistic and not disruptive to your life balance. Remember, setting targets does not mean making them the main purpose of your life but making them a tool to help you work more effectively. With clear benchmarks, you can evaluate your work performance regularly and build a good career path in the future.
Being thankful for your workplace will encourage you to be proactive, and when accompanied by good targets, you will certainly be able to work more effectively. In this way, you will become a worker who pleases God. Do what you love, and love what you do. Keep up the spirit in your work, everyone!
