How Far Can Positive Thinking Influence Us?

This is the power of positive thinking.

One day, a grandfather told his grandson, “There are two wolves. The first wolf is evil, while the second wolf is good. The two wolves are fighting. Which one will win?” The grandson fell silent and thought, but he could not find the answer. The grandfather replied, “The wolf you feed is the one that will win.”

Every day, so many things pass through our minds. Words such as, “You can’t do it!” or “I can definitely do it!” fight each day in your mind. So, who will win the match? The thoughts you “feed” or the ones you develop, those are the ones that will win.

The Power of Positive Thinking

pikiran - gkdi 1

The way we think greatly affects how we live our lives and determines the results we will achieve. Our minds can become a friend that helps us grow better. But they can also become an enemy that brings disaster. So if you want positive results, from now on you must practice thinking positively!

Medically and psychologically, positive thoughts can help us:

  • Overcome fear (for example, fear of failure, fear of being avoided, hated, etc.)
  • Increase self-confidence & optimism
  • Reduce stress levels
  • Give us the strength to know that we are able to do everything well
Not only limited to the things above, the Bible records even more benefits of positive thinking! Let us learn about them!

1. Helps Us Face All Things

I know what it is to be in need and I know what it is to have abundance. In every matter and in all things nothing is a secret to me; whether in being full or in being hungry, whether in abundance or in lack. I can endure all things through Him who gives me strength. - Philippians 4:12-13

That verse is part of Paul’s letter to the church in Philippi. He tells how he had once been in a position of abundance, but had also experienced what it was like to live in lack. Throughout his ministry, Paul went through so many terrible things, such as being beaten, imprisoned (Acts 16:23), stoned (Acts 14:19), arrested and chained (Acts 21:33), bitten by a snake (Acts 28:3), etc.

Yet in the midst of all those problems, Paul kept his mind positive. He did not give up, much less despair. Paul was convinced that he could endure all things because it was the Lord who gave him strength.

Situations may be bad, circumstances may not match our expectations, and problems may keep coming one after another. But if we believe that the Lord is the One who gives strength, then there is nothing we cannot carry!

2. Increases Gratitude, Joy, and Enthusiasm

Give thanks always for everything to our God and Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ - Ephesians 5:20

When our thoughts are positive, we will be more thankful and less likely to complain. As a result, we become calm, able to see problems more clearly, and in the end solutions are easier to find.

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, and persevere in prayer! - Romans 12:12

Positive thinking will spur you on to keep persevering, fighting, praying, giving thanks, and staying encouraged. Imagine if you kept sulking and complaining about everything that happened! Problems that were not that serious might start to look much heavier. The result will certainly be different if you choose to stay positive. This is what will help you keep praying and keep hoping.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything make your requests known to God by prayer and  supplication with thanksgiving. The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6-7

3. Seeing the Goodness of God

For He satisfies the thirsty soul, and the hungry soul He fills with goodness - Psalm 107:9

Negative thoughts can make it hard for us to see the goodness of God. In life, you will surely encounter “bad day” or bad days. But if you train yourself to stay positive, then you will surely still find good things in that day.

Everyday may not be good, but there’s something good in every day.

He said: "Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I shall return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD!" - Job 1:21 (TB)

In a terrible situation, when Job lost everything, he was still able to see the goodness of God. Job had many opportunities to think negatively about God or perhaps curse God. But Job’s positive thinking enabled him to see the goodness of God in the midst of suffering.

The difficulties we face today may not yet compare to what Job experienced. If Job could keep seeing the goodness of God, then surely you can too.

How Can We Train Our Minds to Be Good & Clear?

pikiran - gkdi 5

We have seen so many benefits of thinking positively. So, how can we keep our thoughts positive?

Train your mind through the steps in the following link.

If we look at the stories in the Bible, they were able to face every problem only in the Lord. Therefore, to keep thinking positively, you need to know the Word of God. You also need to be in a positive community so that your way of thinking can remain positive.

A positive mind is not formed in a single moment, for example after you read this article or after you hear a seminar about positive thinking. You need to do it repeatedly. When you begin to think negatively, redirect your thoughts to what is positive.

A saying goes, “You are what you think!” If we always think positively, then we will also reap positive things. Positive thinking enables us to endure everything, increases gratitude, joy, and enthusiasm, and of course helps us see the goodness of God. Let us guard our minds so that they remain positive! - Church GKDI is currently in 35 cities. We have Bible Study activities in every area.
