Refining Ministry Motivation Through Learning the Word
Life’s pressures can blur our motivation for serving, and when that happens, we can ask God to refine our intentions again. This is what brother David experienced, who with his musical talent was deeply involved in worship ministry.
At first David poured all his focus into making sure his music ministry could glorify God. But as time went on, he felt that his spirituality and his longing for God were gradually fading. His motivation in serving began to change, because he received payment after worship services. What is more, after his parents passed away, David had to struggle to provide for his own living needs. This made him hope for additional income from his music ministry.
At this point, David longed to love God wholeheartedly again and restore his soul.
His prayer was answered in 2019, when a brother invited him to worship together at GKDI Nias. After being invited many times, David finally agreed to come. At first he felt uncomfortable because many members of the congregation greeted him and made plans to meet with him. But beyond his surprise, David felt amazed and was interested in joining the discussion after the service. He was asked to give his thoughts and share points from the sermon of the Word that he could learn from and apply in his daily life.
David is grateful and praises God because his longing to learn the Word was finally fulfilled. Now he also understands the true purpose in life that God desires for him. This gratitude and joy are what moved David to give himself to be baptized and become a disciple of Jesus in May 2020.
At present David is writing several spiritual songs that he will offer as an expression of his gratitude to God. He also prays that his family and friends can learn God’s Word and become part of the family of God. To God be the glory!
