Good News - GKDI Ambon Campus Ministry

God has been working in remarkable ways to help the disciples in the Ambon congregation, especially in the campus ministry. This year the campus ministry has grown by 6 people up to the month of September. A total of 10 people have become disciples of Jesus in the GKDI Ambon campus ministry. The campus ministry has also become the ministry that has won the most souls among all the ministries in the Ambon congregation.

At first the campus ministry was combined with the single ministry. By the beginning of 2017, the campus ministry was finally separated into its own ministry. At first there were only 4 disciples in the campus ministry, consisting of 2 brothers and 2 sisters from 3 universities in the city of Ambon.

As a new ministry, this was certainly a challenge for the campus ministry. They were taught to be able to teach the Bible through Bible study training and sit in study. In addition, they were also encouraged to spend more time together and do enjoyable things (fun times). With the preparation that had been given to those 4 disciples of Jesus, they began to reach out to their friends. They were even not reluctant to share the gospel directly. They also held their Bible Discussion Meetings (PDA) in public places. They took time to pray together and also to have fun times (swimming, hiking) together with the friends they were helping. They understood that in order to become disciples of Jesus, they had to be willing to keep growing and learning.

This year, the Ambon campus ministry sent 6 disciples of Jesus to take part in the Nusantara campus retreat in Jogja. They were willing to do many things to raise funds so they could pay for this retreat. They understood that by joining this retreat, they could learn a lot from the disciples in Nusantara and ultimately be inspired to win many souls.

Many challenges arose when they wanted to give to God. The challenges within their families were not easy. Because their parents were still very tied to culture, their parents forbade them to change churches. This became a challenge for them to keep living as disciples. Another greatest challenge they experienced was finances. It was not easy for them to come to worship, because sometimes they did not have the money to go to worship.

In the end, the disciples in the campus ministry were challenged to earn extra money by taking side jobs. Some gave private lessons, cleaned gardens, worked in shops, and helped clean the homes of brothers and sisters. They were willing to do this gladly. Even now, the campus ministry already has shared funds that they can use to support the needs of their ministry.

With struggle and right hearts, they kept wanting to grow and rely on God. This ministry grew from only 4 disciples of Jesus at first, to 10 people consisting of 5 brothers and 5 sisters. From only 3 universities, it became 5 universities that have disciples of Jesus.

This ministry has become a ministry that gives a lot of impact to the Ambon congregation. The campus ministry has become a solid ministry, united, understanding what their mission is as disciples of Jesus, and they have also begun to become an independent ministry.

With all their limitations, they are willing to keep pressing on as disciples of Jesus. Because their hearts are truly serious about being disciples of Jesus, God has made them grow by more than 2 times in less than 1 year.
