Day 29: 31 Days of Prayer

Verse:

Remember, I have taught you statutes and rules, just as the LORD my God commanded me, so that you may do them in the land you are entering to possess. Be careful to do them faithfully, for this will be your wisdom and understanding in the sight of the nations, who, when they hear all these statutes, will say: Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people. For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as the LORD our God is to us whenever we call on Him? And what great nation is there that has statutes and rules so righteous as this whole law that I set before you today? But be on your guard and watch yourselves carefully, so that you do not forget the things your own eyes have seen, and so that they do not depart from your heart all the days of your life. Teach them to your children and to your children's children... (Deuteronomy 4:5-9 - TB)

Reflection:

How quickly I forget the gift that God has given to us through prayer! Pause now and think about this - the Creator of the universe, the author and perfecter of faith, the Greatest One, the Alpha and Omega (the beginning and the end), the One who has power to raise people from the dead, and the One who had wisdom and attention to detail when knitting you together in your mother's womb - THIS God makes Himself accessible to us through prayer. 24 hours a day; seven days a week; 52 weeks a year. No other nation, religion, or human being is so great as to have God near them the way God and Christ are near us every time we come to Him! And beyond all that, He gives us truth and perfect law to guide us! What an amazing gift! But just as Moses reminded the people of Israel in this passage, we must not forget how God has worked in our lives, or let it slip from our hearts as long as we live!

Challenge:

Just as the people of Israel were told to remember what God had already done for them, such as delivering them from Pharaoh's hand or giving them manna from heaven, take time today to remember everything God has given you. Write a specific list of the ways you have seen God at work and seen His love. It may be something “small” like smooth traffic on a day when you were late, or something “big” like God clearing every obstacle when you graduated from class, got a job, or moved to a new place. After writing it all down, pray to God and thank Him for what He has done, and praise Him who allows us to draw near to Him every day. And finally, take time at some point in your day to share this list with someone else. Tell them how you have seen God at work in your life!
