Day 26: 31 Days of Prayer

Verse:

Teach me Your way, O LORD, that I may walk in Your truth; unite my heart to fear Your name. I will give thanks to You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, and glorify Your name forevermore; for Your steadfast love toward me is great, and You have delivered my soul from the lowest depths of the grave. Reflection:

Verse 11. A prayer I often pray is, “Teach me how to follow You.” In the first part, David prays that God will teach David His ways. This is very simple, yet on the other hand it is also a complicated prayer. Although God's ways are made very clear in the Word of God in some examples, there are many times when following God requires hard work from us to search and discover what way He will allow us to go. Yet I do not believe that He arranges only the very small things in our lives; I think He cares about every aspect, and He even has particular desires for our lives. If we ask Him to teach us, He will do it. The result is that our faith grows and we will rely on Him more and be confident that God will keep His promises. Verse 12. This psalm contains David's praise to God. Although we can distinguish each different aspect in his prayer, we can see that he very often praises and glorifies God. In our prayers, we should focus on glorifying God. Our prayers may be simple or complex, but the foundation of the prayers we offer is to exalt His name. Verse 13. This week I have spent a lot of time reflecting on my life, and I was reminded of the “Depths” from which God rescued me. He brought me out of the realm of the dead. We must not forget where we came from before God saved us from a dangerous place. When we understand the depth of our desperate condition and how God's sacrifice played a part in our salvation, we can begin to understand more deeply His love for us and how great it is.

Challenge:

Ask God to show you the areas in your life where you need to grow, and ask Him to teach you to follow Him more in those areas and in every area. Praise God. Shape your prayer life by focusing on praising Him. That may mean singing or playing music, but it can also mean your attitude when you pray. Our attitude in prayer reveals much about our hearts and much about how we realize who God is. When we become aware of the throne before us, our only response is to glorify Him who sits on the throne. Offer every prayer with praise and reverence. Remember who you were before God saved you from the deep pit, and remember how amazing it is that He was willing to die so that you might live.
