June 24, 2018, was an unforgettable day for Demas. On that day, the Informatics Engineering student at one of Yogyakarta's universities decided to become a disciple of Jesus.
Demas's introduction to the life of discipleship began with an invitation from his college friend, Febry, to attend a Bible Discussion Study (PDA). Demas's presence was warmly welcomed by the brothers, so he felt at ease and found something new in his life.
Being raised in a Christian family did not automatically lead Demas to find the meaning of being a true Christian . For 22 years, he knew the Christianlife, but did not know the person of the Lord. Demas did not know how to live a life pleasing to the Lord. Demas's thirst for genuine truth was finally quenched after Kelvin, a brother, invited him to a Bible study in March 2018.
Applying the Word of the Lord in every aspect of life is not easy. All the more when Demas was challenged to maintain purity in his dating relationship, which had now entered its third year. As the youngest of two siblings, Demas was guided to be financially independent, not dependent on his mother, who was a single parent. Demas learned to choose the church where he could grow in faith, and to change his understanding of commitment that is right in a premarital relationship.
As Bible study, went on, Demas felt many changes within himself. His perspective on life, his vision and mission, and his commitmentto making his premarital relationship a glory to the Lord. Because he did not want to be the only one who knew the Lord properly, Demas invited his girlfriend, Loren, to worship at GKDI. Loren was also willing to join Bible study.
After three months of learning, Demas and Loren decided to be baptized on the same date. They wanted to become a true Christian and become a couple who had commitment in dating according to the Word of the Lord.
The cross of Jesus changed Demas's life. Where life once felt like nothing more than a journey without purpose, now Demas has a sure hope in the Lord. He has experienced how good the Lordis, and how the Lord gave him the opportunity to live as a true Christian .
“I found the Lord whom I had been searching for all this time,” Demas said. “Jesus sacrificed Himself for me and made my life more meaningful than I ever thought possible.”
After becoming a disciple of Jesus, Demas became very involved in ministry. In addition to serving as an Usher, Demas was also active in sit in study and boldly sharing his faith with people he had just met. Demas and Loren became one of the steady couples who are very inspiring.
Not only that, Demas showed his gratitude to the Lord by becoming a member of the Mission Team to Magelang together with Loren. For Demas, serving the Lord is part of his life. Demas is willing to leave his family and the comfort of his hometown to serve in a foreign city. All because of Demas's love for Jesus and his resolve to keep pleasing the heart of the Lord.
