Good News from the Malang Congregation - Ales & Khenny

Joy in Friendship

Every married couple is bound to face challenges in their lives, but everything is easier to go through with friends who can support them. That was the experience of Ales and Khenny, who were baptized on Sunday, September 20, 2020. It was a day full of joy for them and also for the Malang Congregation, because both of them have received new life in the Lord as members of the body of Christ.

Previously, Ales and Khenny's marriage over the past eight years had gone on without any real happiness. Whenever they experienced conflict, the two of them never resolved it well or came to a right agreement. This led them to escape into things like hobbies and work to fill the emptiness in their hearts. Sadly, that escape did not solve the problem; instead, it made them store up even more resentment toward each other. 

At the beginning of 2020, Ales and Khenny decided to move to Malang in order to create a new atmosphere in their marriage. When they had just moved, they were filled with many fears- what life would be like there, who they could socialize with or become their friends, and so on. 

Not long after arriving in Malang, they found new friends, Andre and Jesika. The two of them were always there whenever Ales and Khenny needed help and support. Day by day, Ales and Khenny also got to know the other disciples of Jesus better, so they no longer felt alone. However, what they were most grateful for was the opportunity to study the Bible. The two of them could have a much deeper knowledge of God, and build a relationship with God that they had never experienced before. 

When they were able to see how good God had been to them, Ales and Khenny became stronger in facing every challenge before them. Among them were declining financial conditions during the pandemic, even though they had just started a business. In addition, changes in each of their characters made their married life better. They now accept one another more, and have good communication. Ales was also surprised to see how their very active child could become calm when invited to pray together. These things made them even more willing to draw near to God and to the other members of the congregation.

Their relationship with God has changed many things, including the way they view friendship with the other members of the body of Christ. There are many challenges they must face ahead, but together with God and friends in the congregation, they are confident they will be able to go through them with great joy. Amen!
