Good News from the Magelang Congregation - Yuda

Fighting for Conviction with Prayer and Courage

Sometimes, it is not easy for someone to declare the faith he believes in, especially to those closest to him. Yet this is not impossible to do, as seen in the life of Yuda, a young man born in 1999 to parents of different faiths.

Raised by his grandfather and grandmother, Yuda became used to living far from his parents. This informatics engineering student at one of Magelang's colleges is a diligent person. In fact, in the midst of his busy studies, Yuda gives private tutoring lessons to earn extra income. Because from childhood he lived with his mother's family, who were Christians, Yuda had already been used to going to church and praying. However, he had never been guided to live according to God's word. 

In 2018, while visiting his father in Lombok, Yuda was asked to change his faith to the one his father followed. This left him confused, because he actually still wanted to know Jesus more deeply so that he could understand what the purpose of his life was.

In mid-2019, Yuda came to know GKDI through one of his friends who was a guest at a service. Although he came to GKDI Magelang as a shy and quiet person, he faithfully attended worship every Sunday. With the help of sister Febri and brother Kelvin, Yuda was then invited to get to know the life of a disciple of Jesus. 

During that time of Bible study, Yuda was finally able to truly know Jesus personally and have the right conviction. Many things grew in him. His character, once quiet and shy, was changed by the word into a person who is friendly and more courageous. 

Yuda's greatest challenge was how to struggle and maintain a righteous life, and not stop growing. He also had to tell his father about his desire to be baptized. Yet with perseverance, Yuda kept praying for readiness in his heart and asking for courage to tell his father about it. At first, Yuda felt afraid and worried, but the brothers in the congregation continually gave him support.

Finally, on September 15, 2019, Yuda was baptized with his father's blessing. He is very grateful because God softened his father's heart and allowed all this to happen. 

At present, Yuda is a very enthusiastic disciple. Besides being actively involved in Bible Study and sharing the goodness of God that he has experienced, he is also involved in ministry as a guitarist in Sunday worship. Now he understands that his life can be used by God, not only to serve in worship, but also as a witness to how greatly God can work in a person's life. Amen!
