Building Faith Together in Married Life

Having the right guidance for life is fundamental in family life. This is certainly easier to achieve when husband and wife are both willing to grow in faith. That is what the young couple Warius and Rita learned on their journey to becoming disciples of Jesus. 

At the beginning of April 2019, Warius and Rita, together with their two daughters, came to worship at GKDI Magelang. The initiative came after Ricky, Warius's uncle from Jemaat Jakarta, invited them to worship at GKDI Magelang. Curious after hearing brother Ricky's stories about the congregation, Warius and Rita became interested in attending the service. There, both of them made a good impression and were warmly welcomed by the congregation. Their two daughters also really enjoyed Sunday School activities. 

After they had become fairly close, a brother and a sister offered to study the Bible with them. About two months later, Warius and Rita decided to become disciples of Jesus. Both were baptized on July 28, 2019, witnessed by their two daughters and the whole congregation. 

Warius's greatest challenge was how to obey God's word and become a person who was willing to keep being guided in marriage. Because no one had ever guided him in the Lord before, this was something new for Warius. 

For Rita, her greatest challenge was learning to read the Bible from the ground up. At first, she did not know at all how to read the Bible, how to pray, and above all, how to introduce the Lord Jesus to her children. Yet Rita had great conviction to seek God, as well as a sincere heart in searching out His word. From being a mother who was indifferent toward her children, she grew into a person who cared, not only for her children, but also for others.

Warius and Rita felt many differences after studying the Bible, and what it means to love and serve God. Their communication as a couple, as well as with their children, became much better and full of love. Now their two daughters are already used to praying and are not ashamed to invite others to pray.

Knowing God equipped Warius and Rita with the right guidance for life. Living in the midst of a community of disciples of Jesus gave them confidence that their faith and married life would continue to grow. Now Warius and Rita are a couple who are eager to evangelize. And, praise God, at present their three cousins, Yanti, Kris, and Mira, are also attending worship and are studying the Bible.
