Good News from the Jayapura Congregation - Epafras
Liberating Truth
Without knowing divine truth, a person will not be completely free from the chains of sin. Epafras, affectionately called Epa, is a young man who wants his life to go according to God’s design. What happened, however, was not in line with his hopes. Even so, that does not mean God’s plan for his life stopped there.
Epa had to go through many bitter experiences. His father died when he was still young. While in college, Epa entered into a relationship with a woman. They later married at a very young age and were blessed with a child. Sadly, because of the lack of guidance and lack of experience, the marriage fell apart. After that, Epa lived a life that drifted farther and farther from God, and Christianity was merely a tradition he had to go through.
However, God is very good. A sister named Mega was accepted to work as a trainee at the company where Epa worked. Through Mega, Epa came to know the disciple community in Jayapura. In PDA (Bible Discussion Meeting) and GTC (Growing Together Community) that he attended, Epa got to know other brothers and sisters and saw that this was his opportunity to know God more deeply.
The offer of Bible Study was received by Epa with an open heart. Seeing the truth of God’s word finally led him to the conclusion that he had to leave behind his old way of life, his bitterness, and unhealthy relationships with the opposite sex. Epa realized that he had to direct his life to be guided by God’s word.When he was baptized, his mother and younger brother came to witness it and share about the changes in his life as well as their hopes for Epa. At present Epa is trying to introduce his way of life as a disciple of Jesus to his family. To God be the glory!
