Good News from the Bangka Congregation - Lilis

The Zeal to Follow Christ

Following the Lord can be a very difficult thing before someone realizes the meaning of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. That is what Lilis, a sister who was added to God's family on Sunday, October 27, 2019, experienced. Seeing Christ's cross as proof that God loves her deeply became the turning point for Lilis to be eager to carry her cross and follow Jesus.

This 39-year-old woman, born in Klaten, Central Java, is the only daughter among four siblings. As a child, Lilis was often compared to her brothers. This shaped her into someone who was brave and not quick to accept other people's opinions. That character carried over into Lilis's married life, making her a more dominant and talkative wife.

Being born into a family that knew the Lord did not automatically make Lilis know the Lord well. According to Lilis, her past actions did not reflect Jesus as the example for her life. She began worshiping with the GKDI congregation because her husband invited her, after he had first been invited by his friend. Lilis's husband's friend came to know this community through Facebook and clicked the link to the page GKDI Bangka.

Through those worship gatherings, Lilis and her husband felt that they had found a group of people who were committed to living righteously. They felt they could grow greatly in this congregation. This made them willing to be helped to know God's word more deeply. 

During her study, it became clear that Lilis's heart truly thirsted for God's word. She also learned quickly and was willing to respond to every challenge given to her. Lilis began to practice how she should honor her husband, reduce her dominant attitude, and learn to discuss household problems with her husband. 

God's word changed Lilis into a humble person, and made her open to asking for advice and direction. She improved her quiet time so that it became deeper and more regular every day. Not only that, she became convinced of the importance of worship gatherings. Lilis's zeal and joy also made her husband happy. He personally felt the change in his wife, who became more patient and had self-control.

Now, Lilis and her husband have been living in Pangkalpinang for three years. They run a food stall business that now has one branch, and they want to keep developing it by adding more menu varieties. This is God's blessing, and at the same time a challenge for Lilis to be able to divide her time between work and ministry.

Out of deep gratitude because God has forgiven her sins, Lilis is determined to keep living righteously. She wants to introduce the Lord and the truth of His word to many people, beginning first with her family and relatives. Amen.
