Good News from the Semarang Congregation - Eliezer

It Started on Social Media

Eliezer Susilo was born in Semarang on June 19, 1986. He is the seventh of eight siblings. Eliezer works as a marketer at a mattress company in Semarang.

A few years ago, Eliezer was in a romantic relationship with a woman, but they came from different faith backgrounds. Because they could not come to an agreement in matters of faith, their relationship finally ended at the close of 2016. After the breakup, Eliezer went through depression and decided to delete his social media accounts. He replaced them by creating new social media accounts.

When creating these new social media accounts, he added several of his friends' contacts and accidentally added Hana's contact, one of the sisters in Semarang. What began as simply getting acquainted led to light conversation on social media, which ended with Hana inviting Eliezer to join a touring trip to Magelang at the beginning of 2017. From there Eliezer began to get to know the community of single disciples in Semarang. Eliezer felt comfortable and saw that the congregation cared for one another.

From that point on, Eliezer began coming to worship gatherings and Sunday worship services. From simply attending worship services, Eliezer went on to study the Bible with brother Tobing and Andi.

Since childhood, Eliezer had already learned to play the drums and guitar. From his teenage years he had been active in band activities. Eliezer felt burdened for the music ministry in the GKDI Semarang congregation because he saw that the church lacked musicians. From there, Eliezer began serving with the music team while studying the Bible. During three months of Bible study, Eliezer felt there were many things that had to be cast off and corrected in himself, namely his character flaws and sins. His hobby of playing music and performing in cafes or concerts greatly hindered him from building a close relationship with God.

Then the time came, a few days before making the decision to be baptized, when Eliezer decided to turn down a contract for a band tour around several cities in Indonesia, even though from that band tour he could have earned tens of millions of rupiah. Eliezer was baptized on March 19, 2017 and several changes took place in him. Whereas before his appearance was poorly cared for, messy, and long-haired like a band guy in general, now he has become a single who takes care of himself and is neat. Eliezer also understands God's word better and regularly has his quiet time. Eliezer also serves on the music team at the Semarang worship service every Sunday.
