Good News from Jemaat Medan - Elly

Seeking and Finding God

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” This quotation from Matthew 7:7 truly describes Elly's experience, a lecturer at one of the private universities in the city of Medan, in seeking God.

Elly, who has a great many hobbies, ranging from singing to traveling, enjoys being involved in social organizations. As the youngest of three siblings, she was quite pampered and cared for, while also receiving strict discipline from her mother in matters of education. Living far from home shaped Elly into a strong and resilient person, but she became impatient with people who worked more slowly than she did.

One time, while looking for a community that could help her grow in faith and service, Elly found a video Singles & Profesional Ministry GKDI on Facebook. Feeling that God had shown her the way, she immediately contacted the number listed on GKDI's FB page. A few days later, Elly was contacted by a sister from Jemaat Medan.

On May 6, 2019, Elly met with several sisters at a mall. That meeting made her happy because she felt she had found what she had been looking for all this time. Very quickly, Elly opened up about her life situation and the struggles she was facing to the sisters

At the second meeting, Elly immediately studied the Bible on the theme of life's purpose, and in that moment, her mindset changed. In the process of going deeper into the word, she received many new understandings that changed her life. Elly felt she had been guided well, and she experienced the love and patience of the sisters who helped her study the Bible. Now Elly has grown into a person who is independent, patient, and more caring toward others. She understands that God and His word give her the strength to imitate the character of Jesus.

Finally, on November 10, 2019, Elly made the decision to become a disciple of Jesus. When she was baptized, she made a promise before God and His congregation to be faithful to the end and always live in the truth. Elly is also ready to share the good news with her friends and family. Amen!
