GKDI Elderly Ministry

About Us

Loneliness, illness, insecurity, and feeling abandoned are struggles that arise when someone enters old age. Here we believe that everyone needs guidance, and everyone needs a partner to grow spiritually. Not only young people, but even more so those who are advanced in age.

PIWA, which stands for Pria Ilahi dan Wanita Allah or in English, Elderly Ministry, is a ministry for older adults. Why is this ministry needed? Because we see their need to have a community that understands them. And of course also to continue having a great purpose, namely to carry out the Great Commission of Jesus Christ.

If you are over 55 years old, you can join PIWA. You can also invite your father, mother, uncle, aunt, grandfather, grandmother, or relatives who are in their beautiful later years to join this ministry

Before that, let us get to know this ministry more deeply!

A Place to Share

“The righteous will flourish like the palm tree, they will grow like a cedar in Lebanon; planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God. Even in old age they will still bear fruit, they will stay fresh and green, to declare that the LORD is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.” Psalm 92:12-15

Every season of life surely has its own challenges. Ministry PIWA was first formed by 5 people who wanted a community made up of people their own age. At this stage of life, feelings of insecurity, pain, and being left behind by children and grandchildren can often become all mixed together.

This creates a need for a very positive community. This is the place where they gather with one another, build friendships, love one another, support one another, and grow together on the foundation of God’s word.

The activities in this Ministry PIWA are not much different from other ministries. Even though they are advanced in age, they still need the nourishment of God’s word. Their eagerness to know God’s word is quite great. Therefore, Bible Discussion, such as Persekutuan Diskusi Alkitab (PDA) and Pembimbingan Dalam Group (PDG), was created to help them understand God’s word more deeply.

We also make sure that everyone in this ministry has a mentor or guide. In this community, they can also be themselves. They can talk about what they feel. Everyone can help and encourage one another so they can come out of their struggles. Through this mentoring, they are guided and taught what God wants them to do in their lives so that they can remain strong in the Lord.

They are very enthusiastic not only about the growth of their own faith, but also about helping people their own age come to know God’s word as well. Because when they finally understand God’s word and realize how they have lived their lives up to now, their repentance produces very great joy. This joy is the reason why they do not focus only on themselves, but continually share and give impact to the people around them so that more and more people come to know the Lord.

Activities

What do they do in PIWA Ministry? Let’s take a look at what they do!

Bible Talk/PDA (Bible Discussion Meeting)

PDA is held every two weeks. In PDA we can enjoy warm fellowship while discussing the Word of God and its application in daily life.

Mentoring/PDG (Group Mentoring)

As mentioned above, everyone in PIWA ministry has a guide or mentor. Through mentoring, each person is shaped to grow more and more in the Lord.

Retreat

Retreat is an activity where they go away together, usually to a quieter place far from the bustle, to be spiritually refreshed again. In this retreat, they will listen to God’s word, gather together, eat, pray, and even play games together.

Hang Out

In a hang out, they usually go out to eat together.

Spend time

Quality time between two people with the purpose of building one another up. In spend time, we communicate one-on-one to encourage one another, build faith, and learn to dig into God’s word as it relates to personal life.

Study Bible/Bible Study

People in this community are involved in studying the Bible and helping others study the Bible. They learn about life’s purpose and what God wants from their lives. They are also shaped to become more like Christ.
