Celebration of GKDI Anniversary - Stand in Awe

On February 15, 2020, Gereja Kristus Di Indonesia celebrated its anniversary30th. That day, the congregation seemed to be taken back to 30 years ago, when the church first began. That long journey started with 10 young men and women who boldly made the decision and dedicated themselves to proclaiming the good news. 

The church's Anniversary celebration of Gereja Kristus Di Indonesia took the theme “Stand In Awe”. The event opened with a contemporary dance, portraying the ups and downs of the struggle to proclaim the good news.

The event continued with nostalgic songs of praise that were often sung in the past in acapellastyle. On that occasion, the congregation also took time to remember brothers and sisters in Christ who had finished the race of faith well.

Then the congregation heard the word shared by Rev. John Louis, who was also the leader of the mission team to Jakarta. One thing this celebration wanted to convey was that the congregation could grow even more in awe of God. Rev. John quoted Isaiah 29:23-24, which says:

“For when they, the descendants of Jacob, see what My hands have done in their midst, they will sanctify My name; they will sanctify the Holy One,  the God of Jacob, and they will stand in awe of the God of Israel; those who go astray in spirit will gain understanding, and those who complain will accept instruction. ” - Isa 29:23-24

Rev. John Louis emphasized the importance of always being in awe of God and allowing God to stretch our faith. Rev. John Louis's lesson was closed with a praise offering from Regina Ivanova, who sang the song “God Speaking”.

On that occasion, Rev. Harliem also gave a question for the congregation to reflect on, “Have you personally felt and seen the greatness of God?” He also quoted a verse that again reminded the congregation of God's goodness, greatness, and revelation throughout these 30 years. The verse was taken from Psalm 145: 1-6

“A praise of David. I will exalt You, my God the King,  and I will bless Your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless You, and I will praise Your name forever and ever. Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised, and His greatness is unsearchable.  One generation to another will commend Your works and will declare Your mighty acts. The glorious splendor of Your majesty and Your wondrous works  I will sing of. The might of Your awesome deeds they will proclaim, and Your greatness I will tell of. They will celebrate the fame of Your abundant goodness, and will sing aloud of Your righteousness. The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and great in steadfast love. The LORD is good to all, and His mercy is over all that He has made. All that You have made will give thanks to You, O LORD, and those You love will praise You.” - Psalm 145:1-6

After the stirring lesson, the anniversary celebration of Gereja Kristus Di Indonesia continued with a praise offering from Nowella, performance from B7 and the children from Kids Kingdom Ministry. Then, performance from Teens and Campus Ministry, followed by songs of praise presented by Song Ministry, closed the series of “Stand in Awe” events.

Teaching Classes

However, the event that day did not stop there. Without wasting this moment, the congregation was again spiritually equipped through specific teaching classes. The classes for men and women were separated. There were also seven other classes that the congregation could choose from, according to their respective needs. 

The speakers for these classes were ministers from overseas. They shared their life journeys; how they came to know God, the changes in their lives, their faith, and even the struggles of Jesus' disciples in their countries to remain faithful to God. They also shared about why, what, and how to remain in awe of God. It is hoped that every lesson shared would further grow the disciples' faith and awe at the work of God's hands.

Stand Together

The series of events for the 30th anniversary of Gereja Kristus Di Indonesia ended with a reunion and nostalgic gathering among disciples baptized between 1990 – 2000, which took place from 18:30 – 21:00. The event, carrying the theme, "Stand Together" featured various performance. One of them was a drama entitled “Crazy Rich K-Asian”, portraying the life struggle of a Christian who wanted to love God despite facing challenges from family.

Thus the anniversary celebration that had begun at 09:00 in the morning came to an end. The congregation was presented with a celebration that was festive yet full of emotion, remembering how God had worked so wonderfully over these 30 years. It was not merely a celebration; the congregation was also equipped with extraordinary lessons, so they learned from the faith of other followers of Christ. This series of events was closed with a reunion for the congregation baptized between 1990-2000. 

Through this series of events, it is hoped that the congregation can see the extraordinary work of God's hands, which never leaves His children. May this journey add to the faith of us all so that we may grow more in awe of God and remain faithful to Him.
