Good News from Jemaat Cirebon - Sin Tjoan

A Disposition Softened by Love and a Family's Care

Love can wear away a character that is hard. The struggle of Anton and Tia from Jemaat Bandung to introduce Christ to Anton's father ended sweetly. About ten years ago, the two decided to join the mission of building Jemaat Cirebon, hoping they could help Anton's family living there come to know the Lord.

Mr. Sin Tjoan, Anton's father, had a hard disposition from a young age. He also raised his children harshly, so when they grew up, they did not feel close to him and had a poor relationship with him. In fact, Anton himself at first did not believe that his father could come to know God and learn the word.

As a son, Anton struggled to love his father, even though he still had inner wounds that had not healed. He denied himself to give attention to his father, hoping that he could see how God was working in his life.

In 2020, Mr. Sin Tjoan was found to have prostate cancer and had to undergo surgery. During the two weeks he was hospitalized, Anton and Tia gave him care and provided everything needed to support his recovery.

The turning point in Mr. Sin Tjoan's life came when, during his illness, he wanted to seek God. He felt that the end of his life was near and did not want to die without God. After leaving the hospital, he asked Anton to teach him the word of God.

With an open heart, Mr. Sin Tjoan received one Bible lesson after another. Even though his understanding was no longer as quick as before, he showed changes every time a lesson had been shared. A small PDG from Married Ministry also helped by praying together, as well as having quiet time at his home.

After setting aside time twice a week to know God and study the Bible, Mr. Sin Tjoan's heart began to change. His wife and neighbors felt the change in his attitude in society, how he became more patient, more humble, and stopped smoking.

Finally, on December 20, 2020, Mr. Sin Tjoan gave himself to be baptized in the presence of his family. He felt very grateful to be able to know God and receive salvation. Now Mr. Sin Tjoan has become the first Godly Man in Jemaat Cirebon. Glory be only to God!
