Becoming an Inner Person Who Is Continually Renewed

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. – 2 Corinthians 4:16

For those who believe, physical condition and limitations will not dampen the zeal to serve God. This is Anita's example, our sister who is now 57 years old, who was baptized in Jakarta fourteen years ago, on December 3, 2006. She came to know Christ through her younger sibling, assisted by the community Jemaat Jakarta. 

Born in Pangkalpinang into a family that gave the children complete freedom to live their lives, Anita grew up to be a stubborn person. However, since being born again, her mindset changed. Anita is no longer ashamed to introduce the Lord Jesus to others, because she feels that God has accepted her, a sinner. She has also become more open to input, humble, willing to be guided, and eager to do what is good and right according to the Bible. 

In serving, besides being a singer in Song Ministry, Anita is also active in the Caring Team which helps the elderly and those with physical limitations to worship, and also mentors single moms.

In February 2018, Anita was diagnosed with stage 3B breast cancer. Feelings of fear and worry overwhelmed her, but she kept holding on to God's word, which gave her strength and hope. She surrendered all her worries in prayer. Anita believes that God's plan is the best, including when she had to undergo major surgery, six rounds of chemotherapy, and twenty-five radiation treatments.

A year after completing the series of treatments and therapy, Anita continued traveling back and forth to Jakarta for medical checkups. At first it was every month for three consecutive months, then once every three months, until finally once every six months. During that period, Anita remained active in carrying out her usual activities in Song Ministry, Caring Team, and mentoring a small group at church. 

The outward person may waste away, but the inward person continues to be renewed day by day. After being declared healed, Anita still had to keep getting regular health checkups and taking medicine every day for the next five years. Yet she believes that God intervenes in every event she has experienced. She also continually gives thanks for God's presence every day. This is what keeps her enthusiastic in serving God, and hopeful that one day she can start a ministry for women in their golden years. Amen!
