IV. THE LORD WHO JUDGES
Day 29
GOD IS JEALOUS
Exodus 34:14, for you shall not bow down to another god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.We consider jealousy to be something childish or not a good thing. But in fact for God, who is righteous, He is a jealous God. That means He does not want us to devote ourselves to other gods. The Lord so personally desires us to build a relationship with Him that when something interferes with that relationship, the Lord becomes angry. The Lord wants to pour out all His love on those who love Him, and because of that He desires the same from us toward Him.
Verses for Reflection:
Deuteronomy 32:16, "They stirred His jealousy with foreign gods; they provoked His grief with detestable idols"
Deuteronomy 5:9, "Do not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the fathers’ wrongdoing on their children, to the third and fourth generation of those who hate Me"
Psalm 79:5, "How long, O LORD? Will You be angry forever, and will Your jealousy burn like fire?"
1 Corinthians 6:19, "Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who dwells in you, whom you have received from God, -- and that you are not your own?"
