Church Theme for December 2020 - Jesus, The Messiah

This month’s theme is Jesus, The Messiah, taken from the book of Acts 18:5, which says that Paul testified to the Jews about Jesus, who is the Messiah. 

When Silas and Timothy came from Macedonia, Paul devoted himself fully to preaching the word, where he testified to the Jews that Jesus is the Messiah. - Acts 18:5

At that time the New Testament had not yet been written, so Paul certainly drew from the Old Testament about this Messiah. 

What does the picture of Jesus, the Messiah, look like, as written in Isaiah 1: 1-10

A shoot will come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch growing from his roots will bear fruit. The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD; - Isaiah 11:1-2

This means that in Jesus there is the Spirit of the Lord, the spirit of wisdom, understanding, and strength, the spirit to give counsel, the spirit of knowledge, and the spirit of the fear of the Lord. 

Representing Jesus, The Messiah

What does the picture of Jesus, the Messiah, or YESHUA HAMASHIAH, look like, as written in Isaiah 11: 3-5, namely:

- His delight is in the fear of the Lord
- Judging with justice (just) and fairness (fair)
- Striking the world (punishing it) with the word
- Living righteously and faithfully

The question is, do we reflect the picture of Jesus, the Messiah, that the Bible speaks of? If we believe that Jesus is the Messiah, then our lives will reflect the Lord.

Do we delight to live in the fear of the Lord (not by compulsion)? Do we reflect the character of Christ? How are our relationships with one another? Do we love as Jesus loves? Do we delight in reading and doing His Word? Do we live full of the Holy Spirit? Do we live righteously and faithfully to Him?

Live in Peace with One Another

In Isaiah 11: 6-8 it is said that:

• The wolf will live with the lamb
• The leopard will lie down beside the goat
• The calf and the young lion will eat grass together, and a little child will lead them
• The cow and the bear will graze together and their young will lie down together
• The lion will eat straw like the ox. 
• A nursing child will play near the cobra’s hole, and a weaned child will put his hand into the viper’s nest. 

The effect of the Messiah’s presence is that we can live in peace with one another. Because those who were once natural enemies can live together in peace. If today we still cannot make peace with family, parents, brothers and sisters in the Lord, with family, with people from the past, how can we portray the Messiah in our lives?

Why can we live in peace? Because we know the Lord. And we worship the true Christ, as He is described in the Bible. If at this time we are still not living in peace with one another, make peace.

Living in peace is not merely about a situation without problems. 1 Thessalonians 5:12-15 reflects what true peaceful living looks like, namely honoring brothers and sisters who work hard in the Lord, appreciating our leaders, correcting one another, counseling one another, encouraging the fainthearted, defending the weak, and being patient with everyone.

Be like Christ. There are 2 things we can reflect on from knowing Jesus, the Messiah:

1. Have we represented the Lord rightly in our lives?
2. Have we lived in peace with one another because of our knowledge of the word of God?
